The apartment is one of the units in a triplex. It is an end unit and very quiet. My family lives in one of the units and we have a full-time renter in the middle unit.
We are approximately 3 miles from the beach. We are a couple of blocks from the park and Bergamot Station art district. We are about 1 mile to Santa Monica College.
In the neighborhood you can walk to shops, restaurants and Trader Joes. There is also a quaint concert center at McCabes Music Center on Pico. The local bus stops are only a few blocks away. Santa Monica Pier and shopping malls are about 3 miles away.
Free parking in front or side of apartment.
We have 2 pets, a pappypoo (dog about 10 pounds) and a desert tortoise. We have many fruits and flowers throughout the garden.
Marlene's place was very nice, I was able to get 2 healings from her husband, cook my own food there and have a good night's sleep. The only issue for my daughter and I was the wifi connection was poor. If you want to watch Netflix, this is not the place. But, otherwise, it was a good first Airbnb experience.
It is true, but I think this happens with everyone's internet at times. Majority of times the internet is fine but sometimes it just happens to be slow. There is nothing that the Verizon company can do, nor that we or anyone that uses Verizon can make any better. Spend depends on how many people in the area are using the internet at the same time.
The garden was truly amazing, and my daughter loved looking for George (the desert tortoise) every morning. The apartment was spotless, very comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped. Marlene and Makoto were gracious hosts; we appreciated their hospitality.
We loved the Santa Monica Magical Organic Garden. The apartment was spotless. It was very sunny and perfect for my daughter and me. My daughter loved playing with Sachi (the dog) and we loved looking for George (the tortoise) every time we went outside. The neighborhood was lovely and I loved that we were away from the hustle and bustle of downtown but could get there easily.
Lovely little place. Very friendly host and even more friendly dog! Short walk to nice restaurants and supermarket. Have to drive to beach from here, but easy to do so and easy to park. Would definitely recommend, and would stay again if in the area. Thanks for a great stay Marlene!
This sweet little hideaway was perfect! Marlene is incredibly kind and a gracious host. There was a fruit tree I was welcome to eat from as well as an avocado tree! The space is bright, open, welcoming and relaxing. I would absolutely stay here again!!
Marlene's garden cottage is impeccably clean and well appointed. We really appreciated the fresh fruit bowl there to greet us when we arrived! The garden was lovely - so much to look at and enjoy. The neighborhood is quiet, and close to Pico - a funky street of small independent shops, local coffee shop and the Trader Joe's. We recommend it!
Marlene is very sweet, and the apartment is almost as described. Great location, and probably the comfiest bed I've ever slept in!
The only issue we had is that she has a very strange rule of turning the wifi off whenever she sleeps. She never warned me about this, saying after I had to go search for Internet elsewhere when she didn't reply to my calls that "everyone in America does it", and even though I didn't request it, has since been sending me several emails from opinion websites with pseudoscience about wifi being bad for your health... using her wifi to send me said emails (?)
Putting aside the fact that I have a degree in electronic engineering, specializing in communication technology, and know the science behind why that's silly, it's of course her prerogative to turn off the Internet when she likes but she MUST inform guests of this in advance or write it on her profile, as it's misleading to advertise Internet with such a strange restriction, especially since Airbnb very clearly state that Wireless Internet can be accessed 24/7 if that option is ticked. It was a major inconvenience for me, since I was awake early due to jetlag and really needed to work.
If wifi isn't an issue for you, then ignore this and you'll have a great time staying with her.
Benny I am sorry that you did not inform me about the internet problem. I had told you that if you need anything just call me, I live next door. You never called. When I checked my emails in the morning at 7am I see a message from you saying, "If you don't see this soon, I'll have to phone you." The internet is available 24-7. I will make sure that if anyone needs the internet between the hours of 3am-7am, I will leave it on for them. The majority of the people that stay here do not want the emf's going through them while they are sleeping. I am sorry I sent you the information about the electric magnetic fields. Your girlfriend seemed very interested and I did not have her email address. Please forward the messages to her and I will not send anymore.
