Noel truly is a nice host. He picked us up at the airport and gave quick respons all the way from booking until we left Malta. He also gave us a ride back to the airport. The apartment was neat and cool, and the location is great! We had some problems with the air downstairs. Maybe because we are used to sleeping with open windows and lots of fresh air, we found the basement a little too humid, even though it was a dehumidizer there. The bathrooms could have been cleaner, but over all a cozy and nice decorated place!
We (two couples) stayed at the Lucky House for three days in the latter half of October 2014. Noel was very helpful. He met us at the airport and gave us a short tour around Sliema (Euro 25 fee for the airport transfer) and showed us around the townhouse. The townhouse is very well located - a short ferry ride from the lovely capital city of Valetta - and is spacious enough for four people. An ancient but very cool circular stone staircase (not for the faint-hearted) leads up to a great rooftop mini-courtyard. What would make the Lucky House even better value for money would be to upgrade or add a few extra touches in the townhouse. What you get is pretty basic. Provide soap in the bathrooms, more and better towels, internet would be nice (though there is satellite TV), change the shower curtains, upgrade the mattress. All in all, however, Malta in October is a gem and the Lucky House is a pretty good place from which to explore it.
We had a wonderful holiday in Malta at a traditional townhouse, called The Lucky House in Sliema. Lucky House is located close to shops, churches, beach, restaurants, bakery, buses and everything else that you need. The apartment has three floors (it's important to know this, cause sometimes after long travels by daytime or nighttime, it's hard to move up stairs or down stairs), but in general the house is comfortable, clean and very romantic :) we liked it very much. An advice for future residents: that if you have allergies or fear of mosquitoes, do not forget protection measures, cause we were sleeping with open windows and mosquitoes were quite vicious :) and don't forget to take coffee with you! Cause I think it is the first important thing, when you wake up in the morning (and all shops or cafes are still closed) :)
Noel, our very charming host, picked me, my husband and our two friends up from the airport but the traffic was heavy and he was already late for a business meeting so he apologised for not being able to do more than drop us off at the house. He invited us to call him at whatever time if we had a problem or needed advice.
The accommodation is ideally situated, very near to bus routes and the Sliema ferry, and a short walk to the nearest supermarket. It is arranged over three floors. My husband and I had the very generous basement area: bedroom, dressing area and en suite shower room. Our friends were not quite so fortunate in that their bedroom on the first floor was reached by some quite slippery, well-worn stairs, which continued up to a shower room with basin but no toilet. They had to go downstairs to the living quarters to use the toilet there. The stairs from their bedroom continued ever more precariously up past the shower room and eventually onto the roof terrace.
We found that, although there was plentiful hot water, the cold water pressure was such that it emerged from the tap in the first floor basin in a mere trickle, inadequate for cleaning teeth. The supply to the kitchen sink wasn't much better. We phoned Noel and told him of our problem and he said he would come the next day to try and fix it. We didn't see him, and he never raised the issue again. Our friends got over the problem by using the basin in the ground floor toilet for cleaning their teeth.
We didn't do any cooking but from what we saw the kitchen is well supplied with cooking utensils, and there is a decent sized fridge-freezer.
The house is tastefully furnished, and the beds are very comfortable. You should be aware, however, that, although there are doors to the ground floor toilet and the basement en-suite, there are no doors elsewhere in the property. Therefore you need to be on fairly intimate terms with your fellow house guests.
We favoured the restaurants on the Tower Street side of Sliema to the ones on the ferry side as they were less noisy.
Aside from the inconvenience of the cold water pressure, we had a really good holiday in The Lucky House and would be pleased to recommend it although not to families with young children or those with mobility problems because of the stairs.
