Our house is located on a picturesque little street right by the arena. Enjoy the charm of an authentic "arlésienne" house, the bright living-room, the modern conveniences and three cosy bedrooms!
This 110 m2 stone townhouse has been renovated over the past seven years safekeeping the authentic spirit of local architecture.
The exterior was designed by extending the roof's overhang and creating seven french window openings on the second floor. The ground floor facade and stone works had been renovated in may 2013.
The interior space is divided in three moods and levels :
(Note that all bedrooms have a decent amount of storage space for clothes and belongings)
-The ground floor has old fashion tiles, a good sized entrance with a small wooden secretary desk, WC, washer/dryer, a master bedroom with a tropical-marble mosaic shower and a king size bed.
-The 1st floor has nautical woodfloors, a master bedroom with a king size bed and an ensuite bathtub/shower and toilet. Another bedroom with a single bed (we can add another single bed if necesary)
-The 2nd floor has a modern touch to it with a semi-open kitchen, that gives out on the living room which holds a small lemon tree and enough cd's and records to forget about your worries and your strife, for a few months.
You will have access to the whole house.
Interaction with Guests
We will do our best to help you to organize your venue in Arles. We are renting the house while we are on holidays so Janet (Damien's mother), will be in town to welcome you! She's a native english speaker, and you can ask her everything you need about the house and informations about Arles!
Arles is best known for its Antique Roman heritage, giving it's small streets a picturesque and Provence feeling among the main Roman architectural monuments the city has conserved (in rather good conditions).
Our home is located in the heart of the city center. It is a quiet and friendly street (where you'll most probably see a cat or two sitting on a window ledge...) a step away from the roman Amphitheater and a five minute walk from town hall.
In our neck of the woods you'll find a nice Italian restaurant around the corner, a few secondhand shops, small bakeries, cafés, chocolate/coffee shops as well as high end clothing or wine shops.
The weekly street market (food/clothes...) in Arles is the largest in the region along with Aix-en-Provence, and is held on Saturday mornings. A smaller version is held on Wednesdays.
From a point of view located near the amphitheater, you can look out on the most western part of the Alpilles mountainous range, that extends roughly 25-30km from the Rhône to the Durance valley. Only a 15 minute drive from town, the Alpilles boast of pretty villages, scenic routes in beautiful landscapes, and trails you can hike or bike on.
Vincent van Gogh often painted the Alpilles and spent some time in Arles before passing away. His passage in Arles has left humanity with some of his most appreciated works. The Foundation Van Gogh is due to re-open in their new facilities in 2014.
Last but not least, Arles was for the Romans and still is a strategic place to live in, as it is the capital of the Camargue. With it's Delta and it's Regional Natural Park (salt marsh, wetlands, horses, flamingos...) the Camargue is a must see for bird lovers.
Arles' location makes it a 25 minute drive to Nîmes, 35 minutes to Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer,
40 minutes to Avignon, 55 minute drive to either Aix-en-provence, Marseille, Marseille Airport or Montpellier. Paris is roughly 3h30 minutes by train.
Our home is within 10 minutes walking distance from the train (email hidden)ere's a free parking 100 metres from the house.
Make yourself at home!
We're sorry but we don't accept pets.
The whole house is a non smoking place, thank you!
Chloe met us upon arrival and spent ample time to show us the layout of the apartment and the amenities. She also had some fabulous recommendations for restaurants, galleries and local hidden treasures.
The house was absolutely beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was very clean, spacious and perfectly located. It was really lovely to stay in a home that had so much history and yet contained all modern home comforts. We are really pleased that we stayed here rather than an over priced hotel. The bottom line is....tons of charm, tons of character, fabulous hosts, great value and the perfect central location.
We were welcomed by Damien's mother, INGLESE
very kind person who showed us all over the house and described what we could do. The house is as it seems in photo, it'S clean and its position is perfect. Damien reserved a good wine to welcome us, many thanks ! We were 4 people and unfortunately me and my husband slept in the bedroom at the first floor, where the bathroom is not separated from the bedroom (you can see in the photos). I think I need more privacy, I definitely don't like to have wc in the bedroom. But it's my fault, I saw the photos before booking and that show the room .
We enjoyed our stay in Chloé & Damien's home. Damien's mother, Janet, welcomed us warmly and had many good suggestions along with the info the hosts left. The home is very fun & unique, with lots of history. Our kids loved having the 2000 year old Roman arena around the corner. We enjoyed using it as a base to explore Arles, the Camargue and many towns in Provence. We recommend it.
