About this listing
Once my own single residence, this is a custom built one bedroom apartment, and I love to show it off. The duplex house is on a residential street, yet conveniently close to Trader Joe's, Walgreen's, Starbucks and buses heading in every direction and is just an 8 minute walk to local fare.
Since buying this duplex in 1997, this portion of the house has been occupied by myself, then a few long term renters. The other portion of the duplex is where I currently live with my family of four. I will be readily available if you should need anything but entirely out of your space otherwise.
This one bedroom apartment includes a full kitchen with a comfortable eating bar for two, private laundry and a newly remodeled tile and marble bathroom. A crib is also available should you need one.
No smoking in the house or on the property.
Nothing loud after 7:30 p.m.
Three of us had a lovely stay in this clean, comfortable home. It was easy to get around Portland using public transportation for the day that we did not have access to a car, and parking/driving around was equally as easy when we did have access to a car. The home was very clean and well organized; the beds were comfy. We felt very welcomed, and were glad to run into Anthony and the kids for a brief chat before we left.
Anthony was also great at communicating with us prior to our arrival in order to accommodate our late-night check-ins.
One minor thing to note -- the bathroom is located in the master bedroom, so if you have a third guest, he/she will need to walk through the bedroom in order to use it. Wasn't problematic for us, but it's a quirky feature of the place.
Anthony was there when we arrived, friendly, likable and accommodating to our needs. The duplex is as advertised. The house is a historic house in a historic neighborhood, yet there is a Trader Joe's, Starbuck's and Walgreen's all within a block. The duplex is clean, comfortable, and well stocked and is spacious for a travel experience, though small for a place to live, with a living room, nice sized, fully equipped kitchen with a full size refrigerator, adequate bedroom with a queen-sized bed with a comfortable mattress, and good bathroom. Division Street, an "in" neighborhood, with many good restaurants and bars, is a short drive away. We had an enjoyable stay. This is a duplex, and, as the listing says, Anthony and his young family live in the other half. The walls are thin, but Anthony and his wife obviously take measures to keep the noise level down. It would also help to have a place to hang clothes that shorter people can reach. Good place, no bad surprises, we recommend it.
I wanted to love our stay here...
The neighborhood is beautiful and conveniently close to a Trader Joe's (just around the corner) and bus stops. The apartment was beautiful and clean. Anthony and his family were welcoming and friendly upon our arrival.
The only reason I cannot leave a more positive review is that construction was being done in the basement directly below us. The first morning, there was sawing or drilling and pounding so loud that the floor was vibrating. The second was similar, but slightly quieter. I should have said something to Anthony, but I was so irritated that we just chose to get out of the house each day as quickly as possible.
From all of the positive reviews before mine, I would guess this was not a typical situation. I would suggest checking to see if construction will be happening during your visit.
My girlfriend, her sister, and I really enjoyed our experience. After driving about 15 hours of Calgary, the house was a nice place to relax before getting out into the city.
We arrived earlier than expected, when the host was not available, but his brother and some friends/relatives were out front doing lawn maintenance and they were very kind, suggesting different activities we could attend throughout our stay.
The proximity of the place to Trader Joe's and a major transit line right into downtown was really nice for exploring the city and having convenient access to groceries.
Would definitely look for Feels Like Home again the next time we travel to Portland.
Tony was home when we arrived from the airport and quickly made us feel like this was our own apartment. The apartment is just as described, very clean and tidy with everything we needed for our 4 night stay. Trader Joe grocery store is just around the corner and we picked up essentials for our breakfasts, but the apartment had both coffee and tea available for us to make, which was so welcome. We really enjoyed staying in the SE area of Portland, where funky restaurants were just a short drive away. As we had a car, parking was easy just in front of the house, on the street, and free. There is no TV, but this was not an issue for us as we were content with our tablets and the radio, but if TV is important, then this could be a negative for some. We were in Portland during a week of 95 to 100 degree weather and the airconditioner worked so well, even though it is located in the living room it cooled the entire apartment, right to the bedroom at the back of the house, so sleeping was a perfect temperature. The walls are thin between the main house and this unit so when the kids were playing we could hear them through the walls and ceiling. We were not too bothered by this as it would stop, usually before 9pm and then everything was lovely and peaceful. We would definately recommend this AirBNB to others and would happily stay here again should we ever visit lovely Portland again.
Our second time staying here and had a great stay again! Great space and nice location.
About the Host, Anthony
I have Canadian roots, traveled Europe, lived in the Czech Republic and went to college a couple hours South of Portland. Most of my life, however, has been lived here in this humble zip code in SE Portland. Not just a townie that is stuck where he grew up, but rather I really like it here and I like to tell people about Portland and hope that I represent our city well.
