This spectacular ocean view house has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. The master bedroom with french doors opening to porch. Pool. Full equipped deluxe kitchen quality appliances comfy furniture flat screen TV. 5 minutes from beach. Airco throughout
Beautiful modern three bedroom three bathroom house with ocean views 5 min walk to the beach and one and half hours from the airport. Pool, high speed internet, cable tv, Air conditioning, flat screen tv, laundry (no dishwasher).
Close to Jaco and Manuel Antonio. There is good surf at the beach down below as well as in the adjacent beaches with beach and point brakes. There are a great variety restaurants with the famous local restaurant Los Almendros on the top of the list.
The house catches the ocean breezes being on top of the hill. Walking north along the beach you will find an unspoiled beauty with the jungle touching the ocean and many times you will see monkeys. At low tide there are rocky points sticking out up to one kilometer into the ocean with waves braking into blowholes bringing up large water spouts.
Being located on the Central Pacific coast you will be close to all the attractions Costa Rica has to offer.
The new auto-pista to San Jose makes visiting the natural attractions around the Central Valley and the shopping centers in Santa Ana and Escazu very fast and easy.
The road from here south is newly paved and it now only takes 40 minutes to get to Manuel Antonio national park and 3 hours to the OSA peninsula and the southern zone.
To navigate around Costa Rica by car you can use (website hidden) maps or Waze (very popular and accurate here).
Buses north and south stop in the center of Esterillos Oeste 5 minute walk from the house or on the highway just outside of the village.
AC, Wifi, Cable TV ,washing machine ,parking, pool
Interaction with Guests
I live next door and I have a cell phone so I can be of assistance pretty much when needed.
All our neighbors are friendly and I love the fact that we are a bit more private up on our hill but still very close to a wonderful beach great for boogie boarding, surfing and walking. Depending on the tide and which direction you walk on the beach, you have good chance of seeing monkeys scarlet macaws morpho butterflies and all kind of sea birds .
There are buses from San Jose a few times a day and some will take you into the village and other ones will drop you off at the junction by the highway
Other Things to Note
Esterillos Oeste has a couple really good restaurants as well as yummy home made ice cream.
No smoking in the house.
We arrived five hours late, by dark. Brigitte was waiting for us, guitar in hand. We reported a broken coffee machine. Two hours later, we found a new one left for us on the kitchen counter. Brigitte and Fred were there for us.
Beautiful country, cozy village, gorgeous house. Hope to come back.
We just had the best of all vacations at the Casa Velas in Esterillios Oeste. The only thing we could complain about was that one week was not enough.
Casa Velas accomodated us 4 adults and 3 kids (ages 2,4 and 5) comfortably. The kids spent most of their time in the pool or the beach, which is only a short walk away. For the adults the evenings on the deck in a mild pacific breeze turned into long joyful nights with the sound of waves and cicadas in the background.
Brigitte and Fred (the owners) are nothing but exceptional. If you stay long enough you will notice that everyone in the area knows them and will sing their praise without being solicited.
Esterillios Oeste is a quiet town in the mid pacific region of Costa Rica without all the action seen in Jaco, which is about 12 miles north. We were looking for a quiet place to relax and found our little piece of heaven at Casa Velas. If time allows us we would like to come back and stay there again.
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Velas. The house is very spacious, with good open spaces to hang out, and the owners Brigitte and Fred were very helpful and caring. Esterillos Oeste is a non-touristy village with a small supermarket and good Caribbean fusion restaurant. If you want more choice you need to be happy to drive 20 minutes or so to the nearest towns. Manuel Antonio National Park is a 45 minute drive away on good paved roads.
Casa Velas is a truly special place about 90 minutes from San Jose. Brigitte and Fred are wonderful people who really made us feel at home. We had an amazing time at Casa Velas, especially the pool, and the beach and surf nearby. Manual Antonio National Park is a short 45 minute drive away and the whole area has so much to offer.
We really hope we get the opportunity to stay at Casa Velas again. Our girls already miss Winston the dog!
The property was very nice. Everything was clean upon arrival and Brigitte welcomed us with open arms. She showed us the house and shared the instructions and rules. The upstairs bathroom was a little wonky but we let Brigitte know the issues, in addition to drainage problems in the master bathroom. We are all city girls so I think we were a little taken aback by the composting, but hey, she's helping keep the environment clean so why not help her out.
My favorites: The view, the pool and Winston, the friendly, loyal dog!
The pool was so nice and refreshing. The view was breathtaking and there's an amazing view out of the master bedroom. Winston! I miss him. He followed us to the beach, waited for us outside the grocery store, and was there to greet us in the morning and spend time with us at night. He was so great.
The not so favorites: the drive. We rented a car from San Jose. We had some trouble finding the house as we weren't familiar with the lack of street signs, rocky dirt roads, steep hills, and we didn't have GPS. Brigitte provided directions but we were still a bit confused. Once we figured it out it seemed easy to navigate but we were a little stumped at first.
All in all, a great experience. The house was really amazing, and I wish we could've stayed several more days.
Brigitte's place is wonderful--exactly as pictured! Our family had an amazing week here celebrating my dad's 70th birthday. Brigitte and Fred live next door and were extremely responsive when we had little needs or fixes in the house. I would make sure to get very, very detailed directions on how to get here, as the location is not easy to find. Despite Brigitte sending us (website hidden) Maps instructions, we got lost between Esterillos Oeste, Centrale, and Este for over an hour the day we arrived.
I absolutely, positively can not say enough good things about Casa Velas or Brigitte and Fred. This is a little spot of heaven! Even after two weeks, we did not want to leave.
The house is even more spacious than it looks in the photos; it is very modern and Brigitte has thought of absolutely everything. All those little things you take for granted in your house and don't notice you don't have until you're traveling and staying in hotels and rentals...well, they thought of them. Both the way the house was built and in all of the things they have provided - it is a spot of bliss! It is nice to sit up on the roof deck in the evenings and listen to the waves and watch the stars - one night we caught a meteor shower...unreal! There are hibiscus and bougainvilleas and other beautiful tropical plants around the house; truly paradise.
We have 3 small children, ages 6, 4 and 2. The house was perfect for us - we spent mornings playing in the pool and afternoons on the beach (a short walk down the hill, but since I have a broken ankle, we would drive the couple of minutes down...there are an endless number of spots you can park, walk 5 feet and be on the beach).
The A/C works super fast and we made most of our meals there. The beds were super comfortable and the bedding soft and high quality. There were plenty of towels, which is great when you're swimming as much as we were!
We felt very safe the whole time. It is a nice little town away from the super touristy areas (which we loved), but so convenient to them that we could still take advantage of their activities, large grocery stores, etc (which we also loved). There are a couple of stores in town where we could easily get all the basics. We felt like we got the best of all worlds at Casa Velas!
Brigitte and Fred were super responsive if anything came up. We had some internet issues early on and they had someone there right away, and gave us their own modem to use in the meantime so that we were not without- just an example of how cared for we were and how kind and thoughtful they are! She also gave several great recommendations I asked for.
We are already dreaming of when we can return!!
