About this listing
A two story terraced cottage which has been restored to a high standard. It's located in the center of Roundstone on Marine Terrace. It's a short walk to all bars, restaurants and shops and a two minute drive from beaches in Dogs Bay and Gurteen.
The traditional exterior belies the modern airy interior. Downstairs, a large open plan living, dining area with galley kitchen. Upstairs, two double bedrooms and a large bathroom. It will comfortably accommodate two couples
The house doesn't really lend itself to sharing, so it's being let in its entirety. All yours to enjoy!
Interaction with Guests
My primary residence is elsewhere so I probably won't get to meet you. My young associate, Richard, handles bookings and access to the property, so you'll hear from him when you make an inquiry.
Roundstone is a little gem. It has a great selection of pubs and restaurants (check out O'Dowds in particular) and is minutes away from two beautiful beaches. The journey from Galway city passes through spectacular scenery in Connemara. A great base for alls sort of outdoor pursuits - cycling, walking and watersports
There's a bus service from Galway, but realistically the best way to get here is by car (or bicycle!). There's plenty of free parking right beside the house.
Once you're installed, most amenities are accessible on foot or by bicycle.
Mark, as expected we had a great (website hidden) was comfy, everything worked. Had most of our fish dinners and lunch at The Shamrock which was another great find.Bose system with CDs were grand and the house is well situated for day trips Thanks for a great stay.
This was the first cottage where we were not met by our host, so we felt a bit like latchkey kids letting ourselves in. Nevertheless the instructions were good and it wasn't a problem. The cottage was spacious and light with everything we needed. The TV didn't work, but who needs TV in such a great location? The cottage was close to the shops, bars and restaurants of Roundstone which was great after long days touring the delightful area. The house was pretty much as described; in fact inside it was much larger than we had anticipated. Four people would have been very comfortable.
Roundstone is a lovely village, friendly and beautiful. This cottage is very well appointed and well positioned in the village. However, one of the things we appreciate about Airbnb is the contact with hosts. No one checked in with us to see how we were. This would have been appreciated, given that the cooker did not work, we did not have the firewood promised in the instructions (we had chilly evenings and the kitchen lacked quite a few necessary utensils but there was no one to tell. We were unable to make contact with the owner by phone (number was not operational) and did not get a reply from the Airbnb site. We ended up leaving a message for the cleaner. Don't like to be negative as we managed to have a lovely holiday in spite of wasting money on food we were not able to cook.
The cottage has a lovely airy feel to it, with two comfy sofas! It is very open plan, and if there are four of you, you'll overhear most conversations. Proper walk-in shower as well as a bath was very welcome.
We had real problems on arrival with cleanliness: the place stank of drink and the ground floor was horribly sticky, with sticky deposits on a sofa, splashed drink marks on a wall, cigarette ash on a window cill and butts inside the back door. It was a pity we had to begin our week with a morning's cleaning and mopping. The contact phone number didn't work for us, and it took a day to get an email reply to our complaint. We never did see a cleaner. The boozy smell disappeared over two or three days of ventilation.
We could have done without a machine full of wet and dirty washing, including a man's underpants!
Heating very efficient (we needed it in June!) and snug. Would have certainly welcomed wifi, but the bars and hotels all have it once you've bought your coffee. Also, note that the TV mentioned in the description is a monitor with a slot for DVDs: it does not receive television.
About the Host, Mark
I live in Galway city. The house in Roundstone is my vacation bolthole, but I also rent it out from time to time. I have a young associate, Richard , who helps me with bookings and with arranging access to the house so you'll hear from Richard when you make a booking.
