The East Village
The East Village is famous as the birthplace of cultural and artistic movements in New York. Today, the neighborhood has many artistic attractions, perhaps more importantly some of the best value bars, restaurants and boutique shopping in Manhattan. The demographic is a mix of older Eastern Europeans, NYU students, actors, artists, musicians and young professionals.
There are 2 Subway stations within a 3-5 minute walk: Astor Place (4,5,6 trains) or 8th Street Station (N,Q,R trains) which serves all of New York. Alternatively, you can walk to the following areas: Greenwich Village in 15-20 minutes, Soho, Little Italy & Chinatown in 15 minutes, Union Square, Alphabet City & Lower East Side, in 10 minutes.
There are 2 Wholefood supermarkets within 10 minutes walk for all your high-quality groceries; however you will most likely use any of the half-dozen quality bodegas within a 3 minute walk. There is dry-cleaner directly across the road and Laundromat around the corner.

This apartment is beautiful. Absolutely spotlessly clean and uncluttered. Spacious. Quiet and secure. Stylish. Huge (by NY standards) kitchen, which included a kettle for boiling water - something unusual in the States and very appreciated by us tea-drinkers from New Zealand! Beautiful newly renovated bathroom. Plenty of storage space left empty for us.
And finally, I can't say enough about how wonderful Martha was as a host. Always communicative leading up to our stay. When we arrived she gave us a proper tour of the apartment and left us with a fantastic house manual and list of recommendations - every meal we ate in a place she recommended and without exception they were amazing. And it was comforting to know she was close by if we needed any help. Thankyou so much Martha - you were a big part of making our stay in NY magical!
We were three friends staying in Martha's apartment for two weeks - and we loved it! The apartment is very clean and comfortable and looks exactly like the pictures. Surprisingly spacious for New York, with a well stocked and easy to navigate kitchen. The beds were comfortable and the central heating in the apartment building worked well - we weren't cold. The location was amazing, with lots of restaurants close by and a subway station only a short walk away. Martha was a great host - she was happy to help with any troubles we encountered. We would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a great New York experience! Would most definitely stay here again.
Really liked this property. Spacious, comfortable and superbly located. The bedroom can be sealed off with sliding doors and thus provides a very quiet environment for sleep. Everything worked well. I got to meet Martha when we checked out and she is very nice. We would happily stay here again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Martha's apartment. It was immaculately clean and very spacious we even cooked a meal one night using her great kitchen facilities. It was in prime location, the East village is full of great shops and cafes, with a number of them on Martha's street. Martha was away during our stay however her boyfriend was there to greet us with the keys and made it all a very smooth process. Martha is very communicable, helpful and we especially appreciated her list of recommendations including various restaurants and bars that we tried out. On return to New York I would certainly opt to stay in Martha's apartment again.
