About This Listing
2 story cottage with upstairs bedrooms and verandah..best cottage for early risers..
located in the foothills of jamaicas blue mountains, mango ridge cottages nestle along a ridge looking down to the sea and the market town of port antonio with its picturesque twin (website hidden) ridge cottages are within walking distance to public transportation,a town boardwalk and a vibrant crafts and produce market.several excellent beaches are minutes away by taxi..the cottages are an excellent base camp for rafting and hiking in the nearby rio grande valley..bird watchers will find many native species on the jungled property at mango ridge..the cottages are secluded amongst banana mango and coconut palms..all selfcontained units with small kitchen and bath, some wth internet access.the neighborhood is a typical working class community of small homes..the town is not dependent on tourism to its benefit and harassment is not an issue as with the major tourism centers..all in all,its a interesting place to live and work..some people dont sleep soundly their first night or two here due to the sounds of early morning roosters, dogs, parrots andwoodpeckers..this particular cottage is about 250 steps up the hill..the bathroom is downstairs from the bedrooms....there are two queen beds and a single bed.. a certain level of fitness is helpful...comfortable walking shoes with good grip soles are advisable...running water is not hot, unless you heat it on the stove...average year round (website hidden) in the 80s..the air is conditioned by fans and sea breezes...there are mosquitoes...ants and lizards as well..sometimes in your room...beds are covered with netting..long pants and socks are advisable in the evenings especially for children...i would go so far as to say that if you are allergic to insect bites, this rainforest setting might not be the right spot for you...their is occasionally loud music down in the town, but it is usually muted...if u are looking for the amenities of a hotel,i will be happy to recommend one to you....finally,a tip on luggage..suitcases are unwieldy and impractical for mango ridge.due to the steep terrain..backpacks are much more suitable..a third adult incurs an additional charge of 30$us per nite for this cottage..wifi in office courtyard..best to arrive before dark..
we dont have any rules...we're all big people..young children need to be monitored..to save them from unnecessary jungle adventures..beachgoers please wash sand off outside thanks
Mikes guest house was an experience I will never forget. The cottage was beautiful and filled with character. The outside walls were painted with people's names and drawings so you can really tell people loved it. There was running water and fruit left for us as a snack. Even a chicken coop if you want eggs:) best of all was the amazing view:) Mike was very helpful and kind to us
A fantastic few days in Port Antonio and a great place to stay. The views were amazing and had a great time staying there.
This was my second time at Mango Ridge and not my last time. I plan to visit Mango Ridge every year because it is actually heaven on earth. It's conveniently located in the town but still very private and peaceful. Michael is always there if you need him and his family is wonderful! We ate a delicious chicken curry meal and played dominos with his daughter Leila on our first night. It made us feel very welcome. Robin is the kindest and sweetest person ever. I can't say enough nice things about this place. Can't wait to revisit Port Antonio and Mango Ridge again.
We will definitely return to this little gem when we are in Porty! Michael was a great host (he was respectful of privacy, yet very available). The place is very private, you can sit on your porch, view the port and ocean, watch the birds, breathe in the fresh mountain air...lovely. The cottage has all you'll need and hot water! We BBQ'd and used the kitchen stove a lot. When our gas tank ran out, it was replaced in 5 minutes...now that is service!
As we were trying to find the cottage on day 1, they were doing road construction on the road below the cottage and traffic was detoured, we just called Michael and we were met on the road and escorted up. Great service!
Missing Portland....the jewel of Jamaica!
A great place to stay! Michael was very responsive and helpful (even messaging last minute directions to us) and was there to help as soon as we arrived. We got a great authentic dinner from Lisa on the property as well. The property and views are beautiful, like staying in a rustic tree house (bring bugspray and citronella candles) and was very nice to be a bit removed from town. Electricity and cooking utensils available (be aware, no hot water) and the town was great and friendly, easy to walk to. Overall loved our stay here!
Yes it's true... 250 steps! every day... two times... but guess what? It is worth it!!!! Go to Mango Ridge and enjoy the property as well the wonderfull sight over Port Antonie. You really feel like being in the jungle... Michael and his family will are lovely people.
Go check it out!
