About this listing
Welcome! After travelling the world with Airbnb we'd like to invite our fellow travellers into our Dublin home.
Our ex-show apartment is in a converted Georgian Mill complex on an island in the middle of Dublin's River Liffey. It is spacious and sunny with direct views across the River Liffey Weir and the open parkland of Dublin's War Memorial Gardens and the Phoenix Park, whilst still being only a mile from Dublin's City Centre.
We have renovated our apartment with solid oak floors, a state of the art kitchen in solid cherry and a bathroom in creamy Italian marble, and it furnished with family antiques. After a wet Dublin Day, the best bit is our large jacuzzi hot tub!
We are a 5 minute walk from top tourist attractions Kilmainham Gaol, Irish Museum of Modern Art and 15 minutes walk to the Guinness Brewery. You can also go for long walks up the river to the historic village of Chapelizod for a pub lunch or a pint or into the Phoenix Park, as we often do, for a long walk or run.
We are one mile from the start of the city centre and we are on multiple bus routes, or 18 minutes walk from the red LUAS tram/ main airport bus 747/national rail station at Heuston which serves Waterford, Cork, Kerry and Limerick lines. From Heuston you take the tram into the city in 5 minutes, or you can cycle from us into the city in 15 minutes, if you want to live like a local! Walking time is roughly 35-45 minutes depending on how fast you walk. We are also 8 minutes from the M50/N4 junction (Dublin's main ring road) by car and 25 minutes drive from the airport.
Alice is also a passionate cook, and qualified at Cook's Academy Dublin last year, so she would warmly invite our guests to share our candlelit dinner with us for an extra €10 cash a night, lunch is €8.(If you could book meals at the same time as the room that'd be great, so Alice can prepare a feast for you.)
We are a thirty something couple who just got married in May 2013. For our honeymoon we went around Italy with Airbnb! Between us, we speak, as our first languages, English and Czech, and also from an intermediate to advanced level, Italian, Slovak, French and Russian. We have traveled to over 40 countries between us, last year saw us in Mali, Morocco, Gambia and Senegal, the previous travelling from our Czech second home to Istanbul by rail.
Alice is a freelance opera director and theatre writer/director, with mixed Irish-English-American heritage who mostly runs her own theatre company Wonderland Theatre. If you're interested she can tell you a fair bit about Irish history, writing and culture from her various theatre projects on the topic - one of which, an audio walk of James Joyce's Dubliners is on in Dublin daily. Radek is originally from South Bohemia and now has his own pottery studio in Phibsborough Touch Design Ceramics.
Our other interests would be travel, all things cultural - after all we met in the Hugh Lane Art Gallery in Dublin, beach and mountain walks, opera and classical music, reading, movies and cycling.
A simple breakfast of cereals, home made jams, breads and tea/coffee etc is included in the price.
If a single person would like to stay with us we recommend our cosy guest bedroom - just click on Luxury & peace at River Liffey Island from our profile.
We very much welcome long term guests and have had some guests stay with us for over a month.

We've included gym/hotub/sauna/steamroom in our listing as Alice is a member of the local gym at the Living Well Kilmainham (which is 5 minutes away) and can bring you there for free once as her guest.
If we're free and you can text us to confirm your flight is on time, we're willing to pick you up or drop you at the airport for an additional €25 cash, plus short term car park fees (currently €3/hour) if we need to use it.
Thanks for reading our listing and we hope to welcome you to our home and city soon.

Interaction with Guests
We love to chat to our guests and make them very welcome in our home which we share with them.
We love all the green spaces and endless walks in the Phoenix Park - the biggest city park in Europe which is right by our flat.
Yes lots of buses and trams into the city and then it's as easy to walk or cycle in if you've a little more time.
The only real rule is that we want to do everything possible to ensure you have the happiest stay with us, and if there is anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable please let us know at once.
Here is a little summary of our 'rules' which we will include a longer copy of, along with your pack of Dublin maps, attractions and guidebooks when you arrive.
It's always a very good idea to have travel insurance when you travel, and as Airbnb host guarantee does not currently fully protect either host or guest in this area, we require that you have travel insurance for your personal liability against our property or apartment complex, and that you email us with details of your policy before check in. It is usually part of a standard policy.
When leaving our house please be sure to lock it up as if it were your own i.e. check that the balcony door is locked, the alarm is on and both the locks on the front door are locked. Please make sure you have take note of our alarm code when you check in.
A simple Irish breakfast of cereals, tea or coffee, breads, butter, marmalade and jam is included in the price and if we're in and cooking you're welcome to join us for our home cooked meals - lunch is €8 and dinner €12.
Breakfast is only available until 11 am, and after this time, we would kindly ask that you only use the kitchen to prepare drinks and simple snacks, unless we've made other arrangements together.
There are strictly no overnight guests, and no guests between 10pm-9am (unless you have booked for a second person to share the room with you in advance - see listing.)
Guests who stay over a week could be asked to contribute to their share of our electricity bill, if their use of their bedroom heater raises our bill well above our expected levels in wintertime.
If you are a smoker, you're most welcome into our home but please smoke on the balcony.
Please respect our check out time of 11am unless otherwise arranged and please be aware that if we have a guest the previous night we cannot guarantee a check in time of earlier than 2pm. For this reason some of our guests on long haul flights have chosen to book the night before too, if they land in Dublin at 7am.
If as has very occasionally happened, and the airport lose your bag, please give your own mobile telephone number as a point of contact, and do not rely on us to stay at home 24 7 in order to receive your bag as we, just like you, may well not be able to so!
Our home is full of beautiful family antiques, please take good care of them.
Please let us know what your needs are too e.g. if you are a celiac or vegetarian so that we can have the right breakfast ready.
