Come stay at my spacious (1,100 sq ft) and accommodating 160 year old shotgun house in the vibrant Bywater community of New Orleans. The house is a one bedroom with a living room, dining room, full kitchen and two bathrooms. The living room is equipped with a sleeper sofa which can be used as a bedroom (full bathroom next to it).
Guests enjoy a vast amount of space rarely enjoyed on vacations and all the conveniences of home.
The neighborhood is amazing. The Mississippi river runs right by the house. Boats and breeze make you feel a part of the city and its history.
Guests can roll right out bed and across the street to Elizabeth's for duck confit waffles and praline cooked bacon after dancing the night away at any of the neighborhood's great music venues. Vaughn's is swinging on Thursday night when Kermit Ruffins hits the floor. Mimi's is always on time but especially so on Saturdays when DJ Soul Sister kicks out the rare grooves. The outdoor patio at Bacchanal is just blocks away and always has great wine by the bottle and even better live music. Coffee shops, galleries, and cool junk stores are all in the neighborhood and just steps from your door.
Travel and Leisure Magazine have voted Elizabeths one of the best brunch restaurants in America.
The French Quarter is a beautiful walk or bike/bus ride away... but you wont want to leave the neighborhood.
We also rent bikes for $15 a day!

This was a great place to call home while enjoying New Orleans. The space was perfect for us, especially the dining room/second bedroom and the record collection. The place has a really comfortable lived-in vintage feel and we really appreciated the fantastic lighting and various lounging spots. The ironing board and fully stocked linen closet were a bonus :)
We had a few questions upon arrival and Robert was great about texting back, and even gave us some recommendations on places to go during our stay. And a shout-out goes to the property manager Jacc (aka the mayor of Gallier St.) for fixing our TV in time for the playoffs and giving us the lay of the land.
The Bywater location is convenient to pretty much everything. This neighborhood is busy; with construction happening everywhere and people out and about, but also really friendly and diverse. Properties range from beautifully restored to boarded up and everything in between, with a mix of rentals and permanent residents. Steps from the door you have Elizabeth's for endless coffee and breakfast and fantastic views of the Mississippi over the bridge into Crescent Park.
There are tons of great places to eat, drink and walk here. We walked to Frenchmen St. for music and the night market several times and never felt anything but safe, even with teenage girls. We did have a car, which took us all over the city and beyond. However, we could easily have spent days just hanging out within blocks of our apartment (or in it) and would love to come back and do just that. Cool place in a really fun and friendly part of town- thanks!!
Robert was very prompt in responding to questions prior to and during our stay. He was very accommodating in every way. We loved staying in his house. It was in a perfect location to explore several neighborhoods. It was close to restaurants, bars, galleries and shopping. We would and will return.
This is my third time staying, love the space and the neighborhood.
I will keep on coming back.
The place was fabulous, clean, and spacious, we had hot days and it was nice to have the air conditioning unit work so quickly and well. Elizabeth's Restaurant on the corner was the best. The location was close to everything and parking was easy. We walked to Frenchman Street and hung out w/the locals.
Thanks for the input. The fold out is brand new so I am not sure what is going on. It should just fold down perfectly. The rates should have been posted per day for Jazzfest. There is an issue at times with the Airbnb rates. I will look into it. The rates change and we have to send out custom rates at times. Happens often with airbnb, sorry.
Robert's apartment was exactly how he described it. Spacious and very nicely decorated with antic furniture. We loved it. It has a lot of character and a lot of space.
Everything was there even some beer in the refrigerator for thirsty travelers.
We really liked the neighborhood and the restaurant at the corner recommended by Lonely Planet as one of the best in New Orleans. Very lucky location. Nice park nearby. It's 30 minutes walk to Frenchman street but on the way another great place to have breakfast Cake Cafe and Bakery.
I would go back there again.
We had a great time and enjoyed every moment.
Though we did not meet face to face with Robert, the house was clean and ready early for us. That was a bonus as our plane arrived before noon. The rules sent to us were very straight forward so we were in the house and logged on in minutes.
The house was wonderful. We absolutely love the shotgun design. Each room was exactly as described. The antiques, crown molding and the hardwood floors were beautiful. The house is very well kept. The kitchen is large and makes for a great breakfast room or a place to share a cocktail and conversation. For two couples, having two bathrooms was a definite plus.
This was our 4th visit to New Orleans. Our previous 2 visits we stayed at a B&B in the Marigny and had never visited the Bywater. I am very glad we did. This is a vibrant neighborhood with much character. Once we were checked in we immediately went to Elizabeth's (we ended up eating breakfast on two days) which is 30 seconds down the street. The bartender made a couple of recommendations on places we should stop; the Joint and Bacchanal Fine Wine & Spirits. Both were excellent. The joint lives up to its reputation for ribs and Bacchanal's was just a unique place to enjoy wine, cheese and rest after a long day listening to music throughout the French Quarter.
I thoroughly recommend Robert's place as a destination for any stay in New Orleans
