About this listing
Come sleep inside a little bit of history in our charming cottage in the National Historic Landmark village of Waterford, Virginia. This circa 1810 one bedroom home in the heart of Northern Virginia horse and wine country features modern amenities, central AC/heat, high speed wireless internet, a large covered rear porch and a lovely compact kitchen. Queen bed sleeps two.
Exposed hand hewn beams and two hundred year old heart of pine floors allude to the cottage's past as an original log structure, built by the Quaker Village Shoe Cobbler.
The space is modernized. Fine furniture, bedding, art work and a lovely compact kitchen make your stay comfortable. Flat screen TV in living room.
All spaces in the cottage have modern ceiling height except the bedroom and second floor landing which are approximately 6' as they were in 1810, with beams a bit lower ( see photos). Original fairly steep stairs connect the levels.
The kitchen is fully outfitted with nice appliances, tools, cookware, real dishes and herbs/spices.
The Shoe Cobbler's Cottage is perfect for singles and couples wanting a getaway while still enjoying the comforts and conveniences of modern living.
Full run of the home, rear lawn and parking.

For wine lovers, there are over thirty Virginia wineries and breweries within a radius of 25 miles or less, including two in town.
Neighboring villages' offerings include quaint architecture, antique stores, farm stands, Civil War sites and locally owned coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants.
Outdoor activities include biking, especially along the W & OD trail and C & O Canal towpath. Also popular are hiking along the Appalachian Trail and tubing the Shenandoah River. Both are about 20 minutes drive away.
Waterford is not served by public transportation. A car is needed.
