Description

The space

You will love my handcrafted cabin!
Are you looking for a unique place to stay in Muskoka? My Woodwind is the perfect retreat for peace and quiet, close to Toronto. Lovingly restored with Small House Eco design inspiration. NEW this year, bath towels, eco friendly soap, conditioner and shampoo.
(Please bring your own beach towels for swimming)

No pets please.
Maximum two guests.
**With all bookings and/or inquiries please have an UPDATED PROFILE WITH VERIFICATIONS and information about you interests etc. Especially if you have no reviews**

I only take a minimum 2 night bookings on weekends (Friday and Saturday) and 3 night bookings on long weekends, or if I have one open night. This applies mostly to the summer season.
One night bookings during the week are fine, if I can accommodate you.

This is a newly renovated self contained cabin with original hard wood floor, high ceiling and lots of natural light. It has a small bathroom with shower and toilet, refinished antique pocket door, small closet, and a funky up-cycled church windows.
Woodwind cabin has a queen sized comfy bed, bed linens provided, bath towels, soap and shampoo. There is a chest of drawers with large mirror, side table and small desk and chair (desk is not in photos).

There is also a small T.V. with a large selection of vintage VHS movies for your viewing pleasure.

I have two kayaks you can rent for $30 each per day. I supply safety kit, life jackets, paddles and a map.
You can pay by visa or cash after your arrival, sometimes it's weather permitting! There is also a quick waiver.

The kitchenette has sink, plates, cups, mugs, bowls, utensils, wine glasses, bottle opener, can opener, knives, cutting board, toaster, kettle, microwave, and bar fridge and BBQ.
**There is no stove inside the cabin. If you bring a gas stove, you must use it outside. There is no cooking inside the cabin. I do not supply pots and pans***.
You must do your dishes, eco friendly dish soap and wash towels provided.

I use only biodegradable/unscented/eco-friendly cleaners and cleansers in the cabin (I do use a bit of windex). Your sheets are line dried and will not smell of harsh chemical/skin irritating scents. Everything is washed with eco friendly laundry soap as well.

The water is pure spring water from a 200 foot well, drilled into solid granite. Please respect the water and use only what you need.

Outside is your own private deck, surrounded by Canadian granite, honeysuckle bushes, and towering white pines. Complete with patio furniture, hammock, and outdoor fire place, wood provided. You can park directly outside the cabin.
The main house is next door, and I give my guests quiet and privacy. Woodwind cabin and all it's amenities, are strictly reserved for your use.
50 meteres away is a nice sandy community beach, marina, government docks for fishing and boat launch.
Gravenhurst is 10 minutes away where you can go for an afternoon ride on the oldest running steamship in North America, The Segwun. Dine at the wharf, or take a nice drive to Bala, visit the falls, and eat the best buns you have ever tasted at Don's bakery.
Vist the Gravenhurst farmers market on Wednesdays, or go for a easy wilderness hike at Torrence Barrens, the stargazing capital of Ontario. I will be happy to give you any suggestions.

Sorry, no WIFI, but you won't miss it in the ultra relaxing space. Unplug!

Are you price comparing different listings on air bnb? Keep in mind woodwind cabin is only 1 hr 45 min from Toronto. There is no additional charge for 2 guests. Firewood and BBQ is also included, and HST. This truly is a lovely space :)

Guest access

Guests will have access to parking in front of the cabin for easy loading and unloading bags etc. The outdoor fireplace directly beside Woodwind Cabin and firewood is supplied. You will also have your own large deck, lawn and hammocks to relax and hang out. Feel free to explore the garden for organically grown herbs perfect for your outdoor cooking! The small community beach is a 10 second walk down our private road, with two swimming docks. The beach is very sandy with an easy sloping entry. There is also government docks and Marina, for fishing and boat launching (parking as well). The main house is not for guest use.

Interaction with guests

Im usually there to welcome my guests. But I believe in giving as much privacy as possible, unless they need something.

The neighborhood

Kahshe Lake is a very special place for me. My Great Grandfather, Evander, built some of the cottages along the road back in the 1920's. My ancestors used to enjoy the beach, and the healing waters, just as we are so lucky to do now. The area is a quaint collection of cottages, mostly built from the 1920's to the 1950's. A very cozy feel with friendly neighbours.

Our public beach is only 50 meters away. It's a sandy slopping beach with two swimming docks.

The cabin is surrounded by trees and rock with my house on the other side. The driveway is shared (but not close) to the cabin so you have comfortable privacy. The cabin is extremely well insulated with new windows, door, bathroom, and original wood floor.

If you want a close getaway from the city, connect with nature, relax and have a bonfire, the location is perfect. I chop your firewood too!

Hiking trails are accessible by car south and north of Woodwind Cabin (ask me for recommendations) . Our main road is a nice walk too (a bit hilly) down to the other government docks and an old lodge from the 1920's (no longer operating) Rockhaven Inn.

The lake is especially nice because of it's special properties. The water has a slight tea colour, infused with healing tannins. Resist the urge to shower after a swim, and feel how soft your hair and skin is! One of my aunts used to bring water back to the city just to wash her hair.

Getting around

Sorry, no public transit. But there is a bus station in Gravenhurst, ten minutes away.

Other things to note

I discourage guests from bringing disposable plastic water bottles here. No need to bring bottled water to the cabin. It's the best you have ever tasted! Please respect the well, (the main house uses the same well) and be conservative with short showers and water consumption in general.

Please keep all fires small. No smoking in the cabin.

Extra stuff you might find helpful to bring:
extra towels for the beach
flashlight for night walks
marshmallows for the fire

The main house is not for use of cabin guests.
Don't use the bed linens, towels or the extra blanket outside the cabin.
Bring your own beach towels.
Please don't throw food scraps (even if it's compostable) into the forest. This will attract BEARS and racoons. Bring all your food in at night.
Please separate your garbage with recycling. You can empty your garbage in the house basement door on the other side of the Buddha.
Any fires in the outside fireplace must be monitored, and any community fire bans must be respected. No large fires in the outdoor fireplace, SMALL FIRES ONLY. This can damage the brick work. Please cover the firewood for the next guests.

**There is no stove inside the cabin. If you bring a gas stove, you must use it outside. There is no cooking inside the cabin. There is an outdoor fire place, and BBQ. I do not supply pots and pans***. Using foil wrapped food on the BBQ or fire, is the easiest way to Glamp!

Please refrain from using perfume or cologne inside cabin, be considerate of the next guest. Strong Artificial scents 'linger' in this small space. I like to offer all my guests chemical free accommodation.

Woodwind water is very clean and safe, I encourage refillable water bottles.

You must do your dishes, soap and wash towels provided. If you need anything during your stay, please contact me via text.
Other than that, have fun!

*Also Note* If you have any problems during your stay, you must notify me within 24 hours upon check in. No refunds, full or partial, will be given after check out.
In a very rare event of emergency plumbing problems or power outage, or any other extreme circumstances, you may be requested to leave and your money will be refunded for your unused nights. I have a backup generator now, so this should not be a problem. But you may be requested to conserve electrical power.
Please remember this is not a hotel, but a home.
Treat it as if you were visiting a friend or family.
If you ruin or stain the sheets, pillowcases or duvet cover, you WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENTS. My septic system cannot handle harsh chemicals for stain removal. I like to provide good quality linens and towels and can not discard them after guests, so keep them clean. I will provide 'extra sheets' in the top drawer, for guests who need to protect the bed from any messy activities.

I am an artist from Muskoka. I love to travel to different shows to sell my work. I also enjoy my home life of relaxing and working on my house and in the studio. I like dogs, animals, and love nature in general. My favourite hobby now is my electric outboard wood boat. There is nothing like being out on the lake!

Originally, I started to rent Woodwind Cabin for fun, but soon realized how much people loved it. I am so happy my guests can connect with nature, relax, and enjoy my uncomplicated design. I did a complete restoration myself about 5 years ago, you could say it's a 'hand made' cabin!
