Interaction with Guests
Im usually there to welcome my guests. But I believe in giving as much privacy as possible, unless they need something.
Kahshe Lake is a very special place for me. My Great Grandfather, Evander, built some of the cottages along the road back in the 1920's. My ancestors used to enjoy the beach, and the healing waters, just as we are so lucky to do now. The area is a quaint collection of cottages, mostly built from the 1920's to the 1950's. A very cozy feel with friendly neighbours. The lake is especially nice because of it's special properties. The water has a slight tea colour, infused with healing tannins. Resist the urge to shower after a swim, and feel how soft your hair and skin is! One of my aunts used to bring water back to the city just to wash her hair.
Sorry, no public transit. But there is a bus station in Gravenhurst, ten minutes away.
Other Things to Note
Tap water in Woodwind is very clean. I discourage guests from bringing disposable plastic water bottles here. No need to bring bottled water to the cabin. It's the best you have ever tasted! Please respect the well, (the main house uses the same well) and be conservative with short showers and water consumption in general.
Please keep all fires small. No smoking in the cabin.
Extra stuff you might find helpful to bring:
extra towels for the beach
flashlight for night walks
marshmallows for the fire
I do not accept guests under the age of 19, unless accompanied by an adult.
There is no smoking in the cabin, but you are welcome to smoke whatever you want, outside. Ashtrays provided.
The public beach has no life guard, use at your own risk. All children must be supervised. Any boats or watercraft are also used as the guest own risk. No drinking (alcohol) and boating or swimming.
The main house is not for use of cabin guests.
Please don't use the bed linens, towels or the extra blanket outside the cabin. Bring your own beach towels please.
Please don't throw food scraps (even if it's compostable) into the forrest. This will attract bears (yup bears) and racoons. Bring all your food in at night too.
Please separate your garbage with recycling, bins are located under the sink. I can show you where to empty them when they are full.
Any fires in the outside fireplace must be monitored, and any community fire bans must be respected. No large fires in the outdoor fireplace, SMALL FIRES ONLY. This can damage the brick work. Please cover the firewood for the next guests.
***Nothing but toilet paper down the toilet***Do not flush tampons, condoms, garbage, food or grease down the toilet or in the sink. Any foreign objects can cause nasty plumbing accidents. If there is a plumbing problem, you will be billed.
Please park on the gravel driveway, DO NOT PARK ON GRASS.
**There is no stove inside the cabin. If you bring a gas stove, you must use it outside. There is no cooking inside the cabin. There is an outdoor fire place, and BBQ. I do not supply pots and pans***. Using foil wrapped food on the BBQ or fire, is the easiest way to Glamp!

Other than that, have fun!

My own hand painted wood sign, inspired by my Grandfather who was first violin for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Woodwind Cabin was exactly what we wanted and needed to enjoy our time together. It was well-equipped, nicely decorated and very comfortable.
Our host struck a perfect balance between being available if we needed anything to letting us enjoy the space.
We really enjoyed our recent trip here. The cabin is beautifully decorated and cozy. The lake is a one minute walk away. We rented a canoe from the paddle shack and easily portaged it the short way to the beach. Leslie was a great host and we hope to go back soon.
The cabin is small but extremely clean, cosy and has a great atmosphere. The garden is beautiful, relaxing - a very quiet and peaceful place. We spent wonderful two days, the lake is very close and there is a public beach which is great. Leslie is a fantastic host, easy going and everything was well organized. I wish we had more time. Highly recommend this place to couples who like nature and arty atmosphere.
A quiet and calm weekend getaway made possible by the hospitality and thoughtfulness of Leslie! She greeted us with a smile and some general tips upon arriving and made herself available to chat about our travels before we left, all while respecting our privacy for the duration of our stay.
The cabin itself was quaint and well-maintained and stocked with extra necessary items (ie: soap, shampoo, towels, etc.) that assisted in making this a memorable experience.
It was a cinch to locate (a five minute drive off Highway 11) and is located up a short hill on a private lot. The surrounding area is great for couples with a one minute walk to the beach area for swimming, kayaking, etc., and lots of places to walk/hike close-by.
Overall, an exceptional experience :)
Thank you, Leslie!
What a wonderful couple days we had at Woodwind! Leslie was an extremely warm, welcoming and helpful host. The cabin was ideally-suited for a couple looking for some R&R. All the amenities were exactly as described - we were especially happy to have access to a fire-pit and hammocks. The highlight for us was the close proximity to Kahshe Lake - just a hop, skip and a jump from the cabin. We can't wait to go back!
Leslie was an excellent host - we didn't see much of her - but enough to have any questions answered, so we never had to text or wonder about anything. The cabin and surrounds are wonderful. We felt we had full privacy at all times - despite how close the cabin is to the house. Leslie kindly allowed us to bring our 3 year old daughter - and we managed to all sleep in the one double bed. My husband and I agree that it was fun for three - but perfect for two. Our daughter loved the beach; she could have spent all day every day there. It is less than a minutes walk down the lane to the public beach. It was very quiet Thursday and very busy Friday. A lot of fun.
