Interaction with Guests
Im usually there to welcome my guests. But I believe in giving as much privacy as possible, unless they need something.
Kahshe Lake is a very special place for me. My Great Grandfather, Evander, built some of the cottages along the road back in the 1920's. My ancestors used to enjoy the beach, and the healing waters, just as we are so lucky to do now. The area is a quaint collection of cottages, mostly built from the 1920's to the 1950's. A very cozy feel with friendly neighbours. The lake is especially nice because of it's special properties. The water has a slight tea colour, infused with healing tannins. Resist the urge to shower after a swim, and feel how soft your hair and skin is! One of my aunts used to bring water back to the city just to wash her hair.
Sorry, no public transit. But there is a bus station in Gravenhurst, ten minutes away.
Other Things to Note
Tap water in Woodwind is drinkable. No need to bring bottled water to the cabin. Please respect the well, (the main house uses the same well) and be conservative with short showers and water consumption in general.
Please keep all fires small. No smoking in the cabin.
Extra stuff you might find helpful to bring:
extra towels for the beach
flashlight for night walks
marshmallows for the fire
I do not accept guests under the age of 19, unless accompanied by an adult.
There is no smoking in the cabin, but you are welcome to smoke whatever you want, outside. Ashtrays provided.
The public beach has no life guard, use at your own risk. All children must be supervised. Any boats or watercraft are also used as the guest own risk. No drinking (alcohol) and boating or swimming.
The main house is not for use of cabin guests.
Please don't use the bed linens, towels or the extra blanket outside the cabin. Bring your own beach towels please.
Please don't throw food scraps (even if it's compostable) into the forrest. This will attract bears (yup bears) and racoons. Bring all your food in at night too.
Please separate your garbage with recycling, instructions will be in the cabin.
Any fires in the outside fireplace must be monitored, and any community fire bans must be respected. No large fires in the outdoor fireplace, SMALL FIRES ONLY. This can damage the brick work. Please cover the firewood for the next guests.
***Nothing but toilet paper down the toilet***Do not flush tampons, condoms, garbage, food or grease down the toilet or in the sink. Any foreign objects can cause nasty plumbing accidents. If there is a plumbing problem, you will be billed.
Please park on the gravel driveway, DO NOT PARK ON GRASS.
**There is no stove inside the cabin. If you bring a gas stove, you must use it outside. There is no cooking inside the cabin. There is an outdoor fire place, and BBQ. I do not supply pots and pans***. Using foil wrapped food on the BBQ or fire, is the easiest way to Glamp!
You must do your dishes, soap and wash towels provided. If you need anything during your stay, please contact me via text.
Other than that, have fun!
*Also Note* If you have any problems during your stay, you must notify me within 24 hours upon check in. No refunds, full or partial, will be given after check out.
In a very rare event of emergency plumbing problems or power outage, or any other extreme circumstances, you may be requested to leave and your money will be refunded for your unused nights. I have a backup generator now, so this should not be a problem. But you may be requested to conserve electrical power.
Leslie was a wonderful host. She welcomed us upon our arrival and gave us a brief tour of the space. She respected our privacy and was extremely helpful when we had questions. At one point we bothered her for some extra plates for dinner and some ice and she gladly helped out. I highly recommend Leslie has a host!
Woodwind Cabin was lovely, really cosy and comfortable. We got it for Thanksgiving weekend, which I think was the first "cold" weekend there, Leslie had turned on a heater in the cabin so when we got there it was warm and cosy inside. The bed was super comfortable and we slept very well.
The cottage is really cute, just next to Leslie's house. There's a lake very close by with a little beach, it was lovely to sit there and just look at the islands and see little boats coming and going.
Leslie's cabin is an absolute treat - the perfect cosy lakeside location. It is warm and comfortable with everything you need to cook a simple BBQ meal and enjoy it outside by the open fire. Leslie is a wonderful, generous, friendly host - she was kind enough to take us out on her boat and provided lots of useful local info and advice for what to see and do. I can't recommend this place highly enough and hope to visit again!
Stayed in the cabin for one night. It's a charming little spot with everything you would need to get away from the city. The host Leslie is great and lives on the property but gives you all the privacy you'd need. Very close by is a great little beach.
It was a great stay at this cute cabin :)
Thanks, Leslie, for a delightful weekend. The cabin itself was charming and the BBQ/deck was a nice treat for city dwellers with regular access to neither.
The cabin is a stones throw from a stunning lake, - though we regrettably didn't canoe or swim - and is a short drive from Gravenhurst (and some great golf courses).
Look forward to returning next summer to repeat the fun from this year, layering on what we missed.
Thanks so much, you guys were great guests and welcome back anytime. As well, I do have a guide book on my air bnb site (locations are also highlighted on the map), of my own personal favourite attractions, The Segwun, Torrence barrens, antique shops, Canoe restaurant in Washago etc. check them out! Oh, and if you like beer, there is this great brewery called 'Sawdust City' that just opened in Gravenhurst, (I promise not to disappoint!) it has an excellent food truck too, with "Black River Food's, but I haven't been able to link it to my site yet (not linked to the Almighty (website hidden) yet). Anyhoo, hope this helps for next time :)
Leslie was amazing. Great communication prior the the cottage and she was amazing during the weekend as well. Super helpful.
This cottage is cozy and homey. It was very chilly when we went, and it was still a perfect weekend getaway. The beach and surrounding area and the lake are just beautiful. Will definitely be back.
I am an artist from Muskoka. I love to travel to different shows to sell my work. I also enjoy my home life of relaxing and working on my house. I like dogs and animals, and enjoy great food!
