CASA DE LA TREPADA is an ideally located, comfortable cottage - fully equipped in the middle of the surrounding rainforest - just 300 meters far away from the wonderful beaches of Punta Uva and the Caribe Sur.
La Casa de la Trepada is a great vacation getaway for couples, families and groups of friends. It’s a rustic, two bedroom, two bathrooms, two storey house, fully equipped kitchen, ceiling fans, telephone, possibility of internet and a wonderful beranda...
The cottage is situated 200 feet above beach level, enjoying refreshing breezes, and the gentle sound of the ocean. Innovatively and designed by the owners, the cottage is light and airy, featuring many architectural details and warmly decorated with Spanish tile tecnic called TRENCADIS. You will enjoy beautiful sunsets sitting in the beranda, which is an ideal place to take a rest, write a book or do just nothing.
Seven kilometers away is the nightlife of the buzzy little town of Puerto Viejo and 5 kilometers down at the end of the road, the colorful beach village of Manzanillo.
Two minutes walk down the hill from our front gate and you are surrounded by virgin rainforest. The beaches are a 3-4 minute walk downhill - or drive and park right next to the water at one of several spots where the sea is safe for swimming and snorkeling in the reefs just offshore. Monkeys, sloths, toucans and parrots are all regular visitors, and you will wake up each morning to the sounds of rainforest wildlife in all its glory!

A beautiful house and a great way to start a Carribean holiday!
Casa de la trepada was a beautiful home that looks just like the pictures. It's located 500m walk down a hill to the best beach in the area. There are many restaurants in walking distance as well as grocery stores 20minutes walk to get all the supplies you need. As other reviewers have said it's an open air house which does mean there are a few bugs around. The house is tastefully decorated. One highlight was watching all the monkeys in the trees right next to the house.
We recommend hiring bikes from 'Lucy's tours' at the bottom of the road. Bikes are a great way to explore the surrounding beaches. Also ensure you bring the basics i.e dish washing liquid, salt and toilet paper.
Sadly the wifi didn't work during our stay. However Mario&Do tried all they could to get the internet company to fix it. They were as helpful as they could be from Spain even organising their keeper to get a internet stick. The keeper does not speak English but is very friendly. The house would very comfortably fit two couples.
We wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we found ourselves in Punta Uva. We had a very relaxing 6 nights stay.
Casa de la Trepada is our greatest vacation experience ever. The construction of the house is designed according to the surroundings of the rainforest with all wild life. The whole family had a great time and we could spend lazy hours at the veranda when it was raining. There is plenty to do around the village, close to the beach, restaurants and cafés, horse riding et c. You can have a car but it is not necessary (for us it was helpful). Around Puerto Viejo you can chose between many tours. Zip lining was a new challenge to us but a visit to a village where a local indigenous group still practice a traditional life, was also among the choices we must neglect. The absolute best, anyway, was the visit at the “rehab center” for wild, lost or wounded animals, Jaguar Recue center. It was amazing to see and learn how they provided a great variety of wild animals to train themselves back to wild life again.
Fantastic situated house in the jungle. Very nice and autentic house with a good view to see slots, touchans and monkeys. We really enjoyed our week in Punta Uve. You should go there...
If you're looking for a cozy house to stay in a few minutes walk from the beach, Case de la Trepada is a great choice. The house is a 5-10 minute walk up a relatively steep hill into the jungle; while the walk provides a good work out, it also means the house is nicely secluded. Playa Punta Uva is at the bottom of the hill and was the nicest beach in the area by our experience, making it easy to have a beach day. Getting into town required a bike rental or taxi, but there are several restaurants and mini markets a walk from the house.
Since the house is in the jungle, be aware that the wildlife will be all around you, including monkeys, birds, lizards, agouti, and all manner of insects. If you are squeamish about beetles and moths flying around at night while you are safely (email hidden), this may not be a good fit for you.
Overall my fiance and I had a great time at Case de la Trepada and Puerto Viejo de Talamance in general. We'd definitely recommend it to another adventurous couple or pair of couples.
Our stay at Casa de la Trepada was magical! It's literally in the middle of the jungle. We loved being greeted by the family of monkeys living right outside every day, and the house itself is beautiful! Although we didn't know beforehand that it's pretty much an "open air" house (meaning the main stairwell leading to the kitchen and upstairs are open to the outside), it didn't bother us at all. The bedrooms are enclosed, but we definitely made use of the mosquito nets! It has a large kitchen and we often made breakfast there. The bed was very comfortable.
We also loved the keeper Xelo and her friend who was visiting from Spain. They were very friendly and helpful. We actually spent some time with them over dinner and drinks. In all, it was the highlight of our trip and we would love to stay again. The town of Punta Uva and people of Costa Rica in general are beautiful and we miss it already!
I went to this place over the weekend, and my overall impression is that is the perfect place to stay, i'm from Costa Rica and i have been to different places near the Caribbean area:
- The house is big, equipped with all you need
- there's plenty space for social activity
- rooms are really private and comfortable
- it is located 10 mins away from Puerto Viejo (by car) if you feel like partying a bit
- it is located 5 mins away from Manzanillo, where you can find great food
- and it's between Punta Uva and Manzanillo, where the beaches are perfect and beautiful
- Xelo, who takes care of the place is a really kind and always helpful person !
Bottom line, you are in the middle of big rain forest, just minutes away from what you would look or expect from the Caribbean in Costa Rica
The house was beautiful and comfortable, and the cuidadora, Xelo was helpful in getting us situated once we arrived late from San Jose. Punta Uva was very laid back and a very enjoyable town. If you're looking to get away from the party scene that is often Puerto Viejo at night, and would prefer to have the sounds of the jungle put you to sleep instead, I would highly recommend Casa de la Trepada!
We had a wonderful time at Casa de la Trepada. The house is beautifully designed with lots of attention to detail. There is plenty of space in and around the house and the kitchen and all the rooms are very well equipped with everything you need to feel at home. We found the house very clean and tidy and the manager was very pleasant and helpful.
The house is only a few hundred metres to the beach, there is a fruit- and vegetable store very close and a small supermarket within walking distance.
All in all Casa de la Trapada is the perfect holiday location!
We loved la Casa de la Trepada. The house is near Punta Uva the road to turn off the main hwy is marked with a sign for the house. It is very cute and comfortable. It was a unique experiance to feel like you were truly escaping it all. You can hear many birds singing and you may have the chance to hear or see the monkeys. We were 2 couples and it was perfect as each has their own very comfortable room and bathroom. We enjoyed sitting out each morning eating our breakfast and each night on the second level with the hammock. The house has everything you need if you want to cook. At the end of the road take a right and just past Selvines restaurant is the beach access you can easily walk there in about 5 minutes. The beach is beautiful, the sand is soft and the water warm. Plus there is shade available by the trees. There are lots of places to rent bikes which makes for a very fun way to get around and visit more beaches and the little towns along the way. Mario and Do are great at communicating and helping you arrange your trip and giving directions to the house. The caretaker was also very helpful meeting us in Puerto Viajo and we follow him to the house since we arrived at dark. It will be helpful to know a few phrases in Spanish but you can get around Costa Rica easily with out it. We really hope that we will get back to la Casa de la Trepada soon!
