Additional guests above the 2 are $25 per person per night up to a maximum of 11 guests during the warmer months (July, August, mid Sept) and 5 guest total during the cooler ends of the season (June and mid Sept and Oct). Beds: 3 doubles, 5 singles. No pets allowed.

The space
The Hermit Thrush Treehouse compound

The Hermit Thrush compound is only available between June 1st and October 20th.
In this current time of concern over the Covid-19 coronavirus, I would like to assure all my up coming and future guests that every effort is taken to thoroughly clean and disinfect the entire treehouse and cooking/eating pavilion between guests. Also that the treehouse is private and located away from other people in a township with a small population.

Everybody loves the idea of a tree house. There is something freeing, natural and connective to our childhood in the idea. Feel the gentle movement of the structure as it sighs with the wind. Imagine a life off of the ground..... even if only for a weekend. And enjoy the rich sounds of the woods as it becomes your living room.

This creation is organic in its feel and design, with living trees intermingling with the structure inside and out. Made from all local materials or reclaimed elements, it seems out of time as though you took a turn and found yourself in the pages of a story book. Don't be surprised if Gnomes or Elves drop by for tea.

The Hermit Thrush practically disappears in the woods like the particularly enchanting song of the namesake bird. There is a double (full size) bed on the first level and three single beds on the second level. Perch on the first or second floor porch and listen to the living woods. There is even a composting toilet right in the tree house for your convenience. Bring some warm clothes since even in summer the nights can get chilly.

The covered pavilion, a few meters away, has water, a sink, gas stove, refrigerator, complete set of cooking/eating utensils, and there is a large table to eat or converse over. There is a natural fire pit to enjoy as you watch the sun set in the West. An outside shower completes the picture.

Keep in mind that the Hermit Thrush Treehouse is an artistic and rustic structure, designed to give a feeling of freedom and organic interaction with it's surroundings. Due to these ideals, some safety considerations are not present or reduced. For example, railing heights and spacings are irregular, stair treads and rises are irregular, ladders to bunk beds are free form, terrain is uneven and steep, hammocks are over uneven and hard surfaces, as well as other considerations not mentioned here. The treehouse is not recommended for very young children requiring supervision. All guests will be required to sign a waiver of liability upon arrival in order to stay.
The woods in which the treehouse resides is a somewhat fragile environment with beautiful mosses, trillium and jack in the pulpit flowers.
As much as I love animals, I do not allow dogs at the treehouse due to the fragile environment and amount of chipmunks and squirrels that dogs would feel compelled to tear around and chase. Sorry.

The Hermit Thrush Treehouse now has a partner in the woods of Vermont. The Morning Dove Treehouse.

After surveying many of the guests that enjoyed their stays at the Hermit Thrush I came to the conclusion that if anything were to change in that magical spot, it should be in the direction of making more beds available so that guests could invite larger groups, entire families or even separate couples staying could benefit from greater privacy by having separate quarters. My quandary was making this endeavor worthwhile for myself while not putting an experience to commune with nature out of reach for couples or people in general.
What I came up with is a price structure that is very affordable for couples or individuals to come and a per person per night increase for bringing more people, which will also be affordable.
Since one plan cannot address every possible configuration of guests (an extreme example would be: three guests total, a couple and a single individual, want to spend time together but also want privacy so they want to use both treehouses. It would not be reasonable to have one treehouse go for $160 per night while the other goes for $25 per night), so an additional charge might be involved for specific situations.
The Morning Dove is a three season treehouse. It has insulation and can be closed up snugly and heated. Now people can enjoy the earlier spring months as well as get a glimpse of the fall colors. There is a larger living space so that guests can congregate together out of the elements. The Morning Dove sleeps as many as 5. Six if the outside nest bedroom is used in the warmer months (all screened in). The Morning Dove has two double beds, and one single bed and the nest has a single pad that an individual bringing a sleeping bag could use.
Both treehouses are equal distance from the cooking pavilion and each has an indoor toilet as well as the outhouse by the pavilion. Privacy is still an important focus of mine, so even if only one guest comes to stay, they will be the only one present at the treehouse compound which includes both treehouses.

Guest access
As Guests at the Hermit Thrush, you will have use of fire pit (wood is provided), cooking area, hammocks, and outside shower building. The windows on the Hermit Thrush tree house are screened. The Morning Dove treehouse is insulated and can be heated.

I am an artist that likes to build my art into practical things. My house is a good example of this. It is also important to me that my life and surroundings reflect the gentle impact I hope to have on nature. I am a firm believer in recycling, not merely sorting #1's and #2's, but creating something useful out of otherwise unused material, the project often spawns from what I have available. My enthusiam for a project is only eclipsed by my sense of humor. I love to laugh and make others laugh.
