The space

we are offering a bunk in a mixed Dorm in our beautiful restored traditional Japanese manor house.
(if the room is showing as booked please enquire as someone may have only booked one bunk and we have another dorm)
the house is over one hundred years old and was until 2012 run as a guesthouse called Yougendo.
Shingo the manager ran yougendo until the former owners decided to return to the U.K. at which point he bought it and renamed it guesthouse Kotone.
the house is split into two parts the main house and the accommodation wing the main house contains the living areas of the house so the living room , fully equipped kitchen, the second living room with tourist information, computer and book loan library and the formal Tatami rooms with the painted shoji sliding screens.
the accommodation wing holds the sleeping areas of the house
which consists of four rooms please try and keep the noise down in the part of the house as someone may be sleeping
please bear in mind all bathroom and toilet facilities are shared

the house is a 5 minute walk from a major J.R. station as well as two Kintetsu stations and a bus station (you can even get to Tokyo by bus from here is you can endure 8 hours on a bus)

I really enjoyed my stay here. It is truly a traditional house and I desired to stay in a home like this. The heater was more than sufficient to keep me warm in a wooden house. Hopefully I can stay here again!

Shingo was very nice and helpful host, ensuring all our needs were met and we were comfortable during our stay. Guesthouse Kotone is a beautiful space with floor-to-celing windows allowing you to take in the surrounding gardens. We stayed in the more western-style room with 2 bun…

The house has old typical Japan-style design. It is a warm and intimate place to live. You can feel history there.

I arrived really late to the hostel because I got lost, but the host was very understanding and was very patient while checking me in. He was also very helpful when it came to planning my trip to Nara and gave good restaurant suggestions.
