Cute and close-in, Hawthorne studio

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Southeast Main Street, Portland, OR 97214, United States

The Space

I have a super cute, well lit, clean and quiet studio apartment in the heart of the Hawthorne/Belmont district. It's located on a quaint cul-de-sac in a park-like setting, and is walking distance to hip restaurants, boutiques, bars, movie theaters, farmers markets, you name it! There are several parks and lovely Mt. Tabor nearby, so you can get a birds-eye view of our beautiful city. All of the activities of downtown, such as the esplanade and Saturday market, are accessible within minutes from this location. There is on-site laundry. Sorry, no dogs.

  • This apartment is in a quaint, quiet area at the end of a dead-end street with plenty of parking. There is a beautiful oak floor in the living/bedroom.
The place is one half of a low budget duplex with thin walls and dated cupboards and decor.
The people next door walk past the windows and glass door that look into the bedroom area and the blinds give little privacy.
There is no microwave and no kettle or teapot. We think the washer and dryer are in a building over the road.
We were surprised to find no hangers in the wardrobe and we were there with suits and dresses for a tango festival!
The old gas heater put out a lot of heat, but also a lot of noise, so we had to shut it off at night. Warning - bring earplugs!
As there is no wi-fi, we had to find a local coffee shop to check emails and schedules.
Some printed instructions for guests would be helpful. There was no information about the apartment, the equipment, or the neighbourhood attractions, or Portland in general.

Crystal communicated well with us at the beginning, but closer to our arrival, our emails went unanswered. She had advised us to text if we had any problems when we got there but we don't carry cellphones outside Canada.

  • I had such a wonderful stay at Crystal's studio. The space is clean, adorable and in a nice, quiet neighborhood. I highly recommend it!

  • The location was great and mostly everything was as advertised. Unfortunately as others had mentioned wireless Internet was no longer available. I would recommend this place to others.

  • Crystal's place was great for my stay. The cul-de-sac is a quiet area with places closeby on Hawthorne and Belmont. Everything was clean and ready for my arrival. I recommend it! Nota bene the wired internet is available through Ethernet cable. Enjoy Portland!

  • Pass on this one. While this SE studio may seem like a deal, it's not. There is some fantastical photoshop magic going on with the pictures on Airbnb, because walking into that studio was like meeting up (email hidden) date who had the audacity to use a profile pic of himself from a good 15 years ago... when he was young and fit. In reality not the idealized version pictured on the site, this "cute" studio is a rather run-down college apartment with a noticeable mold problem. (Note: I am not sure how reviewers are living that mold on the ceiling, walls and windows, esp in the bathroom, is four stars on cleanliness.) Furthermore, the walls of the apartment are paper thin so you can hear everything from the sorority sister next-door who likes to roll in at 2.30am on a weeknight and blast music then stay up until at least 4am. The pros are that Crystal is responsive, check-in is smooth, and it's a "good location;" but I lived in Portland for years, so I know that hip, funky neighborhoods "close-in" are a dime a dozen in Portland. I have no doubt that I could find a better-appointed, CLEAN apartment equally well-situated at a similar price point. I am disappointed by the false advertisement. I would not stay here again or recommend others do so.

  • This little studio was just as advertised---clean, quiet, and very handy to Hawthorne St. and its many adventures. It was easy to get from here to many places downtown. Only drawback was no wi-fi (our devices did not work with the ethernet cable), but this was not a big issue. Our stay happened to be on some very warm days, but the apartment cooled down by late evening, and we weren't there during the day hardly at all anyway. Our first airbnb stay was an overall success, and we would recommend this little apartment for a very reasonable stay while in Portland.

  • Crystal's place was just what we needed for our Portland stay. She made everything easy - from check-in to communication - and the place was comfortable, clean, and in a great location. Highly recommended!

  • Crystal's place was wonderful! We could tell she put a lot of work into it. Everything was clean and organized. Some towels and washcloths were even provided.

Not only was the space nice, but the location was incredible. About a 5 minute walk from Hawthorne's shops, pubs, restaurants, and Kruger's Farmer's Market (which we visited everyday on the way out). Also, the Safeway supermarket is about a 10 minute walk from Crystal's place.

I highly recommend it, and if we're ever in Portland again, we'd love to stay here again!

  • My friend and I stayed here for 3 days during our trip to Portland. The space was perfect for our needs. It was bright and inviting and well situated for all we wanted to explore in the city. The restaurants and shops on Hawthorne Blvd were fun to check out and the bus to downtown, Belmont, Burnside were easily accessible. Would totally recommend this space.
