  • We had a wonderful stay at Cynthia's place! I really recommend this place to stay in Hilo -quiet neighborhood and the most friendly host I've ever met. Cynthia gives her best to make your stay memorable and keeps an eye on lovely details. Thank you so much Cynthia for that great stay!

  • My husband and I had a wonderful time in Hilo and most of that was because of Cynthia. The room was exactly how it was described. It was clean and inviting. She had several brochures as well as her bucket list of things to do on the island. It helped us fill in the gaps on our plans. She was very communicative when we were planning and then after we got there as well. I hope that we can come back one day.

  • i had a wonderful stay at cynthia’s: you get a great location close to hilo (yet very quiet), a spacious room with lanai, a daybed and a desk. and last but not least an excellent host! cynthia made me feel very welcome and i very much enjoyed our conversations in the morning. she also knows the island well and is happy to share her knowledge. in short, highly recommended! i look forward to coming back next time i’m on the island.

  • First, Shaka Shak was easy to find nestled in a residential area not far from Highway 11. Cynthia was not there, but I was greeted warmly by Natasha. She showed me to my room, which was very spacious. The bed was very comfortable. There is a fairly private Lanai to sit on while drinking your morning coffee or late night tea.

Other perks of Shaka Shak. Cynthia allows the guests to use the covered parking, which in Hilo is great because of the rain. Also, they have recycling and compost bin in the kitchen which I find nice. Internet connection was super fast.

The only negative I can even come up with was that the neighbor appeared to leave early every morning. Since I'm a light sleeper, that was the only down side.

All and all, I loved the location of this place and will definitely consider it for future visits.

  • We certainly enjoyed staying at the Shaka Shak. Though not upscale, the accommodations are clean, comfortable and roomy. Cynthia is a wonderful host, very friendly and accommodating to our needs. She provided great references for places to visit and places to eat. If we make it back to Hilo, we would certainly stay here again.

  • Cynthia's apartment was perfect for our 3 days in Hilo! The apartment is self-contained (bathroom, tons of closet space, microwave, mini-fridge) and shares a floor with a few other rooms in the house.

The location was great too - less than 10 minutes from the airport in a small community just outside downtown Hilo with a BEAUTIFUL view of Mauna Kea from the porch.

Would definitely recommend. Thanks for being a great host, Cynthia!

  • Cynthia is a perfect Airbnb hostess. Her Shaka Shak was so comfortable and clean. She really went out of her way to make us feel welcome. She even offered to pick us up from the airport. We would definitely not only recommend her to everyone we know, we would stay with her anytime we come back to Hilo. Thank you for welcoming us into your home.

  • Thank you Cynthia for such an enjoyable stay! My friend and I spent two nights in this wonderfully spacious room that was fitted thoughtfully with everything we needed and more- from emergency toiletries to a plate of fresh local fruit! Cynthia was lovely enough to wait for us even though we kept pushing the check-in time later in the day, and she also gave us some great tips on local food and cooked us yummy breakfast in the morning! Truly wonderful accomodation and host- couldn't recommend more highly, thank you again Cynthia!!!!

  • Great place in Hilo which is close to everything.
Cynthias was a great host! Very friendly and helpful. She even made us breakfast one morning and allowed us a late check out because of our late night flight.
The room was very quiet and cozy. Cynthia offered coffee, Tea, fresh botteled water and sweetys in the room. And it was very nice and helpful to use the waher (only cold water) and the dryer.
