Maui Ranch is a unique and rarely seen Hawaiian country home in Upcountry Makawao, Olinda, Maui. This wonderful ranch house is located a few miles above the historic town of Makawao. The area is tranquil and embraces the nature of Maui.
The 2000 Square Foot restored historic home is at a perfect elevation. The climate is temperate with temperature usually in the 70's/80's during the day and 60's/50's at night. This is ideal climate for a relaxing sojourn, a perfect romantic retreat, a serene space for writing, meditation, and artistic endeavors. It also lends itself to a fun family gathering.
The location is up a meandering country road that captures the fragrance of eucalyptus that line the lane. Here you will experience the real upcountry Maui away from the bustle of the tourist scene. This quaint and private retreat is only 12/15 minutes to restaurants, shops, pubs, galleries, yoga and massage spa, and a general store.
This private country estate begins down the quaint driveway as you breath in the scent of fresh clean air. Serenity and peace will engulf you as you approach the manicured lawns and organic orchard of lemons, plums, rose apples, macadamia nut, cherimoya, peaches and Chinese cherry. Birds of Paradise and a few sentinels of Koa, redwood, and pine can be found scattered around the 2000 square feet of tastefully restored 1940’s Hawaiian Ranch style home.
At night the sky fills with an abundance of twinkling stars. Sometimes you might get lucky and see a shooting star or moonbow.
The charming living room has new wood floors and an inviting lava rock fireplace. The many large windows look out onto the many gardens. This living room is decorated with art from local artists. There is a mix of Bali, leather, and a contemporary futon which offers an air of welcoming charm. The essence is a casual feel of relaxation.
Truth be known, when folks visit, they do not want to leave. The energy here at Maui Ranch is very positive and relaxing on the soul.
The living room encompasses a dinning area that can seat 6 easily at the table if you choose not to eat in the kitchen or outside on the back lanai/deck. The table has 4 dinning chairs and we have 3 fold out chairs for more folks.

To TOP it all off is a large Sauna cottage and gazebo with a sitting swing bench! Delightful!
The washer and dryer tucked away in the master bathroom alcove is also a great convenience. The master bathroom has brand new travertine stone flooring and a vanity. The shower is large and separate from the tub.

This property falls short in one area, the kitchen. Needs updated fixtures and attention to detail with utensils, clean drawers, etc. Otherwise--this property is amazing! The setting is stunning. Secluded, quiet, private. Enjoyed!
Aloha EO EO,
Thank you so much for choosing Maui Ranch to visit for three nights. We are grateful for your advice and will be adding more utensils. We are currently searching for historic fixtures as well. Great suggestion! We will definitely look in those drawers too. YIKES! Scrub a dub dub in there!
The sink is the original Farm Sink, so we rather like it, but will fix the side corner with a little rust on it. Otherwise the sink is very clean and nice. (Well we like it. :) We also steam clean and deep clean every inch of the house for every client.
We do hope you found the peace you needed to complete your business plan.
Thank you so much for staying at our home. We are very thankful.
Warm Aloha and Mahalo,
The Maui Ranch Ohana
The beautiful atmosphere of Neesa's upcountry estate allows you to experience Maui from a different perspective than staying at the large resorts. The house was comfortable, private, and equipped for all needs. Each morning waking up in the master bedroom is like waking up in the clouds due to the beautiful view from the large open windows. You also can't beat the view from the hot tub. Thank you, Neesa! We had a lovely honeymoon!
This place is magical and super relaxing. We loved sitting out back and listening to the frogs in their little pool by the deck and the birds singing in the trees. Also, visiting the goats in their neighboring pen. The landscape is lush and green all around, and there's so much beautiful scenery to feast your eyes on. It was amazing to wake up every morning and see the view from the bedroom with its huge windows. The view from the extra-deep bathtub was also wonderful.
The hosts also provided fresh eggs -- which were delicious -- and lemons from their tree. I never knew lemons could taste that good. We cut them up and put them in Cokes and ice water.
I'm so glad we stayed here instead of some overpriced cookie cutter hotel in a tourist area. It was a unique experience.
We didn't get the chance to meet Neesa but she was very polite, responded to all questions promptly and her husband David was a very gracious, kind, and affable host. The place, admittedly, was so great that I don't want to share our experiences for fear that the NEXT time we go back (and we'd like to), that the place will be booked. It was a slice a heaven: gorgeous, rustic, spacious, clean, and everything that we wanted. Can't wait to return.
This place was a wonderful home to stay in. Neesa & Dave were very accommodating hosts, easily accessible, and even checked in to make sure we had enough beer! Farm fresh eggs and organic coffee were a delight as well. This property's also backed onto a beautiful forest reserve and it's only just over 30mins to Paia! (hip lil surf town with amazing food)
MAHALO : )
What a fantastic way to discover the beauty of Maui....by staying in Upcountry at this unforgettable home. It was away from the tourist hustle and bustle, but close enough to everything and a perfect base camp from which to explore the island. We stayed for two weeks with our 15 month old daughter and will have lifelong memories of our first (but definitely not last) visit to Maui. The gardens, the chickens, the goats, and the chameleons all became part of our daily routine....not to mention the hot tub! An evening fire was the perfect way to end our days. Our hosts left us alone, but provided everything we needed - and then some! If you want to see Maui at your own pace - start here... you wont be disappointed. Thank you Neesa and David for such a beautiful holiday.
Neesa and her family were great hosts - very accommodating and the house was lovely. It's very private and quiet. The draw back is that it is quite a bit cooler at the house. This isn't a problem when the weather is great but when its wet or overcast, I would have rather that it be 75 than 61. Also when the weather isn't great, to get to makena, it takes more than 45 minutes. All said, you won't get more house for the money and the reason is that it is a little out of the way.
Aloha Leif! Thank you so much for your review. We are so happy your family enjoyed the time at Maui Ranch. We appreciate that you took the unexpected rain and cold spell in stride during your sojourn. All of Maui was engulfed in clouds and rain. Though we can get this kind of weather on occasion, for the most part it is beautiful on Maui and especially Maui Ranch. We are grateful you did enjoy the well stocked wood for the 2 fireplaces and historic wood stove for warmth and ambiance. The hot tub and sauna cottage work great to take the chill off too. :) In addition, though Makena Beach is a longer drive, Sprecklesville Baby Beach, Baldwin Beach, and the Famous Windsurfing Beach Hookipa are all 20 to 25 minute drive. Mahalo for visiting our unique, off the beaten path, piece of paradise! Warm Aloha to you and all your girls!
Wonderful piece of heaven, truly a relaxing place to wake up and restful sleep. The grounds were full of flowers and the host pointed out a chameleon. Having a romantic dinner by the roaring fireplace was an enchanting finish to the end of a sunfilled day.
Don't hesitate on this property, extremely outfitted with all amenities.
We stayed for 3 nights and really enjoyed this property. The drive up to it is a very unique long winding road with beautiful huge trees- well worth it as the house and yard are really outstanding!! The house was very clean and we really enjoyed using the hot tub and the fireplaces. The basketball hoop was great for our kids. It would have been wonderful to have had more time to just stay around the property and enjoy being there but we spent our days out driving the Hana Highway and exploring Paia (which was great to do from this location-we took a little shortcut to the Hana Highway which prevented us from being caught in the traffic one always hears about) David was very nice and showed us around (too bad we didn't meet you as well, Neesa, maybe next time!) We had complete privacy which was great but knew that if we needed anything the owners lived on the neighbouring property. I would recommend this place and would love to visit again one day if we are lucky enough to travel to Maui in the future.
The house was beautiful. Everything was perfect. Really quiet place in the upcountry of Maui, with a nice view from the room. It is even better than what the pictures show!
Neesa being abroad, David welcomed us with some fruits, wine and beers. He was really helpful and always available for us.
Thanks to Neesa and David for making our stay so memorable.
