Interaction with Guests
We visit with our guests every couple of days to insure their comfort and answer any questions that they may have about Bali, the culture and what to do and see during their visit.
The neighborhood is very convenient to everything in Ubud and is a microcosm of the best that Bali has to offer. A walk out to the rice fields will enable you to experience the daily life of the farmers in this agricultural community. Watch the ducks as they clean the rice fields and get them ready for a new crop; see locals washing their laundry in the streams; visit with local artisans in their homes and really get a sense of what Bali is all about!
Welcome to our home. Please treat this house as your own. We have tried to provide every convenience for your comfort. We have furnished it with artwork and several collectible pieces for you to enjoy.
Let our housekeeper know if anything is broken or does not work properly so that we can continue to maintain it.
Please write in our guestbook before you leave, and on the Trip Advisor website when you return home.
I stayed at Hyacinth House with my 16 year old son for a very short but sweet three days and three nights. We loved the house! Comfy inside with beautiful views outside! Pool was fabulous and refreshing after long walks through town. I particularly liked how the house was within walking distance of a great spa (Sedona Spa recommended by Henry) and also restaurants and shopping districts in Ubud. Henry was a gracious host and Ketut made wonderful breakfasts! Would definitely stay at Hyacinth House again.
We loved our stay at Hyacinth House . It was perfect for us to read and relax and enjoy the peaceful private surroundings. The little earrings close by were fabulous meaning we didn't have to go too far from our perfect base. Highly recommend this house . Barbara and Henry welcoming and ketuts breakfasts fabulous. We loved it and we will be back.
Loved this house's location! The walkways in the area are enchanting, the view is amazing, and the owners were very pleasant. We enjoyed swimming in the pool, the delicious breakfasts, and reading books on the giant patio. Thanks for having us!
We spent almost a month in Hyacinth House in April 2015. We were a party of three - a young married couple and our mother. The location of the house (Penestanan village - 15 minute walk to the center of Ubud) is very convenient and has a specific local charm that we did not find anywhere else around Ubud as we explored the area. The place is located away from the main roads, among the rice fields and narrow walking paths that make the experience of staying there very special. We did not feel inconvenienced at all - a large supermarket is within a 5 minute walk from the house, several cafes featuring local, as well as organic/ raw food options are within a short stroll, there are some convenience stores, a juice bar, and a number of massage parlors all within walking distance. The house itself is comfortable and well taken care of. Every need we had was promptly addressed by the hosts - Barbara and Henry - who are very nice and helpful people. They were always a phone call away and always gave us good suggestions about the area whenever we needed it. The wonderful lady named Ketut, who took care of our breakfasts and helped keep the place clean was the highlight of our experience. She was so wonderful and nice, it was always a bonus to see her every morning. Her cooking is great, and both Ketut and the owners - Barbara and Henry - were very accommodating with regards to our specific dietary needs/ desires. Everyone was super flexible and made sure we were comfortable at all times. We enjoyed staying at Hyacinth House and can't wait to come back to Ubud soon!
Getting to this house the first time you definitely need someone to guide you to it. From the street (Bintang market) you walk up stairs and then have about a 5 minute walk that takes you on sidewalks without rails and there is a steep drop along much of the pathway. There are not signs to direct you, hence someone to guide you the first time is required. You must have a light at night to walk along the path.
The house is nice and the pictures are representative. The breakfast was more than enough for each person and was prepared by our excellent housekeeper, Katut. She was very nice and took great pride in her work. The driver that Barbara recommended, Blue, was the best. He picked us up at the airport and guided us to the house, path and all. He spoke very good English, was a pleasant and knowledgeable guide. We hired him for a day and he took us to the 'friendly' monkey forest, giant rice fields, and more. Hire him for sure. When we booked this house we thought it had A/C. It was our mistake as it did not and we wish it did. Everywhere else we stayed had A/C.
We had a wonderful stay at Hyacinth House, the villa is in a lovely location with rice paddies and restaurants near by and an easy walk into Ubud center. Ketut the housekeeper was great - she is an amazing cook (her omelettes are the best I think I've ever had!) and Barbara was a great host popping round to make sure we had everything and to give us advise on the local activities and food! We would definitely recommend staying here if your coming to ubud!
Barbara and Henry were fantastic hosts. Flexible, communicative, and available. I showed up the day after being discharged from the hospital and Barbara kindly left me some snacks for my first bites of solid food. We also decided to come earlier than expected and they arranged for us to stay at their other property for that night. This was a vacation tagged onto a work trip with moving parts so I'm sure we were way more high maintenance than they are used to but they were nothing but accommodating and pleasant. We were also there through Nypei which meant lights out and we couldn't leave the villa for 24 hours. They sufficiently prepped us, checked in on us, and provided us with the breakfast ingredients for that morning. The only thing I regret is not having enough time to learn more about their story. We got to hear an overview from Henry our first morning but it was such a short trip. They have a fascinating story and I hope I get the chance to meet them again. As for the property? Serene, rustic, and relaxing. It was a great way to wrap up a long work trip.

About the Host, Barbara
My husband and I have had a love affair with Bali for many years, buying our Villa Sunrise on the beach in 2004, opening an Indonesian furniture and art gallery in Santa Fe New Mexico, organizing yoga and meditation retreats, and now having built our Villa in the ricefields of Ubud.
Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun were built in 2011 to western standards with a Balinese esthetic.
We have decorated the villa with high quality Balinese art, furniture and artifacts. Villa Sunrise, Villa Semua Suka and Bungalow Jepun are our 'homes' not 'hotels'........welcome Home!
