Private room in Tropical forest!

House - Shared room · 40th Avenue, Keaau, HI 96749, United States

This is truly a Merry Monarch opportunity. Although listed as a single room, it is amazing how many people can be slept on this property. And there is space for the halau to practice.

If you are looking to house several members of a halau, do look this over carefully.

The Space

Spacious bedroom, clean and with large windows. Small refrigerator, and above ground swimming pool may be ten steps from the bedroom. The bathroom is across a lanai surrounded by fruit and nut trees and flowers are always in bloom.

Great location for bicycling, walking and jogging. The bus stop is a 20 minute walk. Shops and restaurants are within a 5 minute drive. Great space for Halau practice -- Merrie Monarch!

We live in a rural area of the rainforest with birds, geese and chickens.

Guest Access

There is access to a washer and dryer upon request.

There is a 40' x 24' area to practice or hold meetings.

This tropical rain forest property is on several acres. Do walk to the front and rear orchards. Pick fruits and nuts for your own consumption. Enjoy.

Interaction with Guests

We know East Hawaii well. We are more than willing to share our knowledge with our guests. Ask and you shall receive.

The Neighborhood

We are in safe neighborhood. You will find horseback riders along the road. There are joggers and walkers as well. Please drive safely.

Getting around

It is a 15 minute walk to the bus stop. Public transportation is infrequent on the big Island. Please check the transportation schedules.

Other Things to Note

Feel free to walk through the orchards. Pick fruits and nuts for your own consumption. Enjoy the chickens. They will make you laugh!

  • My mom had the time of her life and checked Hawaii off of her bucket list. Robert's place was the perfect hub for her 2 weeks of exploration.

  • I live in Cottonwood Arizona, so to be living in the rainforest at Keeau, Hawaii was a magnificent change. I enjoyed the rain showers off and on night and day. I loved going to sleep listening to the roar of the frogs at night. The house was comfortable and roomy. There was a lovely walking road among the trees, in total solitude. Billie Jane McIntosh

  • We were extremely pleased with our whole experience. Bob Arthurs and his wife were friendly, gracious and welcoming, and the apartment was spacious and clean, with everything we needed. The location is beautiful, in a rainforest-like setting with birds, frogs and flowers, but close enough to Keaau for convenience, and within easy reach of Hilo and Volcano National Park (our favorite places). We would love to stay here again if the opportunity came up.

  • Location was perfect for me. Central to the spots I frequent the most. Volcano and Hilo. A quick yet far enough distance from the highway. Bob's a hoot. Loved my time. Just what I was looking for. s soul.

  • The bottom part of the house in the picture is everything you could wish for: cool, clean and lots of space with a big bathtub and kitchen. You are free to roam the premises, which are large ! Bob and his wife welcomed us into their house and can tell you about everything there is to do the island. Worth the extra minutes driving from Hilo if you're staying on the Hilo side of the island. During the evening and nights the frog concert is fantastic !

  • We stayed one week in Bobs apartment and had a fantastic time. On arrival the apartment was nicely decorated with fresh flowers.
The apartment is perfectly hidden in a huge tropical garden but still just about one mile of the Highway and thus convientlylocated to all attractions in the Hilo/Volcano area. Bob lives in a house on the same property (several hundred metres away - it's (email hidden) garden) and can be contacted if necessary or if you need advice on what to visit. The second floor of the cottage is rented out.
The apartment is great value for the money and we only can recommend staying in Bobs cottage!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Bob's cottage. Bob (email hidden) who wants his guests to have a great time. If we are fortunate to return to the Big Island, we will definitely stay longer than a week!

  • The place was very clean, spacious and had everything needed for a vacation. It is secluded in a tropical setting. The host was very accommodating. Unfortunately this was a working vacation and the internet wasn't sufficient for my needs. Robert was gracious about us leaving early. We highly recommend it for anyone looking for peace and quiet.

  • Friendly couple, beautiful place. Gorgeous orchard, not far from Keaau, great for a little getaway. Very earth friendly to boot!

Many thanks! We are pleased you enjoyed what we could share for our piece of paradise we have the good fortune to nurture and maintain. :)

  • Bob was such a friendly and open-hearted host, who tried to make our stay as unique and comfortable as possible, told us everything about the must do-things on Big Island and was even our tour guide for one day. He and his charming wife are one of the most kindhearted people we met on our stay on Hawaii. Their house is situated (email hidden) property and had everything we needed. Every evening a choir of thousands of frogs started to sing - like a swarm of whistling birds - so if you love nature and look for a something private, don`t hesitate and book!

About
We are retired and run a few rentals on the Big Island in the cool, lush, rain forest. Our rentals are clean, fresh, and open air nestled in the rain forest with lush tropical vegetation, flowers and birds. Most importantly, drive time is twenty minutes to the ocean, Volcano National Park, Hilo airport and the University. It is a 45 minute drive or longer to the top of Mauna Kea to see the stars like you have never seen them before. It is a two hour drive to the Kona airport and Kona beaches. Presently, our rentals are full but camping is a possibility. Just let us know what your needs are!
