Hidden Stairways of San Francisco
Please note this walk is not at all strenuous. Obviously there's some stairs but this is done at a leisurely pace and suitable for almost everyone. Great for families, friends and ideal for groups, company off-sites and team-building. This breathtaking 2 mile walking tour of San Francisco's hidden stairways is the #1 rated Airbnb Experience in the Bay Area, loved by both locals and tourists alike. See gorgeous mosaic tiled steps and hear the stories behind them, then take in stunning 360° views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park and downtown San Francisco. You'll also discover beautiful neighborhoods and gardens that many locals are not aware of and that tourists rarely see. Oh, and you might even go home with a succulent! I'll provide commentary, context and some history along the way. Generally SF is dry May-October. There can be fog in the summertime, mostly in the morning. Temps rarely above 70F (21C) or below 50F (10C). Rain may cancel. It will be necessary to carry small children as strollers are not suitable. If you bring a guest that’s under 18, it’s your responsibility to make sure the activities they participate in are age-appropriate. Instagram: @hiddenstairsSF or hiddenstairsSF@gmail.com
I sailed San Francisco Bay!
Welcome aboard a large sailboat, a Downeaster 38. Designed by renowned naval architect, Henry Morschlad, this Downeaster is in exceptionally good condition. Downeaster's are known as being stout and seaworthy bluewater cruisers. They can be found all over the globe. This experience is available for up to six guests and great for groups and team building. Your three-hour adventure starts at Jack London Square. The route will depend on wind conditions; however, our goal is to cross the bay to see the marvelous sites of South Beach Harbor (home of the SF Giants), the financial district, the bay bridge, and then Treasure Island. During the tour, you'll see amazing wildlife; including, flocks of pelicans, sea lions, and the occasional dolphin! This is an active experience! I will review the basics of sailing (wind angle, general terms for operating the vessel, and rules of the road). You will take a turn at the helm (wheel), manage the sheets that control the sails, and raise and lower the sails. Naturally, you are also welcome to just sit back and enjoy the amazing views.
Japanese Spoon Carving
Japanese wood carving is rooted in personal wellness, relaxation, and an age-old meditative tradition of making with your hands. For me, it's the best way to express and channel my creative energy as a designer. I will teach you how to hand carve your own wooden spoon using traditional Japanese tools and techniques. The class will start with a slow breathing exercise that leads into a discussion of different wood types, an explanation of the tools required, and an overview of the techniques used to cut wood. Once you have a basic understanding, I will guide you through the process of carving the bowl of the spoon with the spoon gouge, then designing and whittling the handle and top of the spoon. When the final design has been reached, we will find zen in our creation. Other things to note Please wear closed-toe shoes, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. We will be carving and making a beautiful mess! Class will be held outside in Oakland if weather permits, exact location sent out a few days before class.

Macaron making with a Master Chef - Oakland
Macarons are incredibly popular, pricey and one of the most difficult pastries to master. When I started, it took months of trial and error with the recipe, preparation, baking and temperatures. You begin with learning what a great macaron is and then exactly how to create them from scratch. All the tips and tricks and common pitfalls are discussed. The idea and aim is that you should be able to create beautiful macarons at home! We create macarons from the 4 basic ingredients and discuss how your macaronage (macaron batter) should look when it is ready to be piped. We move on to how to perfectly pipe your macarons and how they should feel when properly cured and ready for the oven. Do not worry if you have never used a piping bag - I will teach you how! We then fill our macarons discussing flavors, others types of fill. In all, about 1.5 to 2 hours of solid, professional instruction. You will leave with a full dozen macarons!
Angel Island Sailing & Hiking Expedition
All aboard! Set sail on an Islander 36 from the Berkeley pier to the historic Angel Island – the San Francisco Bay's largest island. I'll show you the ropes as I cast off from the dock and hoist the mainsail and jib before exiting the harbor. From there, it's a long port tack toward our destination. Depending on the wind direction, we'll tack a few more times to reach Angel Island by late morning. At the docks, we'll be greeted by park rangers and barking seals as we disembark. From here, we'll head past the beach toward the hills, ascending 788 feet up switchback trails to the top of Mt. Livermore. Pack a lunch and a pair of hiking shoes for a 3-mile hike up, followed by lunch at the summit. While eating lunch, you'll be surrounded by a 360-degree panoramic view of the Golden Gate, city front, and the entire Bay Area. Then, we'll hike back down the other side of the ridge, and take time to smell the Eucalyptus trees before getting back on the boat for a downwind run as the sun comes down behind the Golden Gate.
