The Kapellbrücke is a covered wooden footbridge spanning diagonally across the Reuss River in the city of Lucerne in central Switzerland. Named after the nearby St. Peter's Chapel, the bridge is unique because it contains a number of interior paintings dating back to the 17th century, although many of them were destroyed along with most of the centuries-old bridge in a 1993 fire. Subsequently restored, the Kapellbrücke is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, as well as the world's oldest surviving truss bridge. It serves as the city's symbol and as one of Switzerland's main tourist attractions

🌉 Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) – Lucerne’s Iconic Landmark 📍 Location: Lucerne Old Town (approx. 1 hour from Affoltern am Albis) 🌟 Best for: Photos, history, lakeside walks, and classic Swiss charm The Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) is one of Switzerland’s most photographed landmarks — and for good reason. Built in the 14th century, this charming covered wooden bridge stretches diagonally across the Reuss River, connecting Lucerne’s Old Town with the newer part of the city. Inside, you’ll find a series of painted panels depicting key moments in Lucerne’s history, making it not just beautiful, but meaningful too. Why visit: • 📸 Snap iconic photos with the Water Tower and mountains in the background • 🎨 Admire the 17th-century paintings inside the bridge roof • 🦢 Enjoy the calm of the river, often dotted with swans • ☕ Perfect starting point for exploring Lucerne’s cafés, shops, and lake promenade 💡 Local Tip: Visit in the morning for softer light and fewer tourists — or at night when the bridge is beautifully lit and reflected on the water.
