Learn mahjong and sip tea in an NYC photo studio

New York City's mahjong scene has been blowing up recently, but you have to know where to look to find yourself at a table. Join me in my Brooklyn photo studio, where I’ve gathered many friends to learn and play mahjong, and I’ll teach you the ins and outs of this ancient game. • Once you settle in, I’ll pour tea for everyone and tell you a little bit about the game's history. Then I’ll walk you through the basic game—aka chicken hand—rules. • Next, start up a game! I’m prepared to teach total beginners, answering questions and offering guidance throughout. If folks catch on quick or already have some familiarity, I can teach / play the more advanced Hong Kong points-style game. • As you play, I’ll document our gathering with a 3D film camera that creates unique, holographic GIFs. You’ll leave with the mahjong basics, a holographic portrait, and recommendations on where to find some great Asian eats in this part of Brooklyn, if competition has whetted your appetite. ***Please note: the experience requires at least three booked guests, as mahjong requires 4 players!

Search for rare records & enjoy private hifi listening

The Lower East Side has a rich music history and heavy concentration of record shops with hard-to-find records. Come along with me as I take you to some of my favorites. • We’ll meet in the East Village, at a former landmark record destination. Where I’ll share some history on the roots of the neighborhood, nightlife and vinyl community. • Then head to Ergot Records, where I’ll share a little about my work as a DJ and record shop owner, and then we’ll start digging! • As we explore the neighborhood, I’ll recommend other great shops and music destinations (based on your taste), and talk about how the landscape of record stores (& neighborhoods) in this city have evolved. • We’ll end up at Duty Free Records, where I’ll walk you through my curated collection. Then we’ll have a private listening session—diving into to the albums you’ve just picked up, or just vibe to whatever you’d like (vinyl preferred). You’ll leave knowing where to pick up new treasures from the shops we visit, plus my tried & true recommendations of where to have the best digs.

Discover the world of hip-hop dance, focusing on iconic moves that originated in New York City, in this engaging break-dancing class with me, Kid Glyde, a crew member of the Dynamic Rockers. • We’ll start with a dynamic warm-up to build strength and flexibility before I lead you in an in-depth breaking lesson, with multiple technique variations learned from some of the greats. • You’ll put on gear that represents New York’s hip-hop culture from the ’80s, and practice your creative exercises solo and with a partner. • We’ll wrap up with a freestyle and battle, where you’ll take what you learned and put your new skills to the test. You’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for breaking as an art form, and unforgettable memories from our workshop.

The Secret Speakeasies and History Experience Midtown

Welcome and Happy Holidays!! *This tour also takes place on NYE with a live ball drop and drinks included all night. The duration is from 4:30-12pm. Lets begin our Prohibition journey together with a drink at our first stop!! We’ll cheers to Prohibition and drinks as we tell the tale of the period’s most notorious gangsters and infamous bootleggers. At our second location, we’ll focus on the women of the Gilded Age, and the movement that gave rise to an oil king while celebrating over a drink, apps and decor taken to the next level. Options for cocktails and appetizers are for purchase along with time for mingling. Learn Drums or Perc with the Best!

Welcome to NYC's finest Drum Class learning Experience! You will dive right into a 1 hour private drums lesson at one of New York City’s best music rehearsal studios, on a full professional drum set, or percussion setup. You can experience the atmosphere of where some of the worlds most famous musicians practice before a show. This is the center of musician culture in NYC! Alex will work with your musical level and map out a lesson based on your ability. All musical levels are taught, from basic beginner to professional. You don’t need to bring anything. He will teach you any style of drumming you wish to learn. (Please message me BEFORE booking to make sure the studio is available! Lessons can be booked any time after 12pm). If you wish, additional lessons can be planned for the future, in person or thru the internet. Please specify if you want a drumset class or percussion class (either- Congas, Bongos, Cajon, or Djembe). Our facility is Very clean and health compliant. We use first class drum equipment. 99% of our students learn to play a drumbeat in just 1 hour with Alex's method. An adult can sit in and accompany a child for free. Only the student will be charged. At the end, Alex will be happy to take pictures or video you playing drums with your own phone or camera. You can post it on your social media!

Dive into the heart of the underground Greenwich Village jazz scene - visit two local joints on a night of thrilling discovery; meet jazz greats along the way. Gordon has been keeping track of this evolving scene since the 80's - always on the look out for the next Miles Davis or Billie Holiday. To start, meet for a drink in an historic jazz club to get to know each other and relax. Gordon will discuss what's in store for the night - what to look and listen for. Then head out to hear not-to-be-missed bands in the underground clubs chosen for the night.  While walking between clubs on the intimate Village streets, you’ll see historic sites that tell the story of jazz through the decades: Starting with the 20’s - Prohibition era speakeasies; through the late 30’s with Billie Holiday singing Strange Fruit at Cafe Society; and Charlie Parker inadvertently turning a strip joint into the cradle of hard bop in the 50’s…You’ll be immersed in jazz history.
