See Old Sheldon Church Ruins: (Free) It’s a cool site to see and a great place to take a picture. Old Sheldon Church was initially known as Prince William's Parish Church and was built in the Greek Revival style between 1745 and 1753. It was burned down by the British in 1779 during the Revolutionary War. In 1826, it was rebuilt only to be burned again by General Sherman in February 1865. Today, these gorgeous ruins from a bygone era are found amongst majestic oaks and scattered ancient graves. Inside the ruins of the church is the burial site of Colonel William Bull, who, along with General Oglethorpe, was key in establishing the physical layout of Savannah, Georgia. It is now a popular site for wedding ceremonies, photographers, and ghost hunters. It is located at 919 Old Sheldon Church Rd. (about 25 min drive away). Park across the street from the church ruins.

In July of 1854, construction of the present building began. Architect E. B. White designed a structure described then as a “handsome cruciform Gothic building”, which indeed it remains today. Fanned arches with a look of palmettos top its mullioned windows that are framed by latticed shutters. The builders sent to England for the rose-colored glass in the windows. Inside, soft-pink scored plaster enhances the warm light. Exposed pine timbers evoke power and stability. In 1863, Federal troops marched into Bluffton burning most of the town. Although the church was spared, its congregation fled. In 1892, the roof was replaced, but the deadly hurricane of 1898 damaged it and the rest of the building. By February 1900, all was repaired. know our historic church on Calhoun Street. a scenic stop on many Lowcountry tours and that makes A scenic stop proud of its legacy reaching much deeper than its impressive facade. Just as plain pine boards grew into an extraordinary building, the Church continues to evolve from a simple country parish to serve a growing and changing community, locally, regionally and globally.

The only beach on the Atlantic Ocean that you don’t need a boat or a membership to enjoy. I provide the pass( hangs in kitchen by the microwave) The pass gives you entrance as well as admission to the Lighthouse - limited numbers for the lighthouse. The park pass is for the carload. Forrest Gump Vietnam scenes were filmed here. It’s a very wide sandy beach and there’s lots of options once you’re in the park- my hint- keep going to the left , past the lighthouse, cross the little road and keep going- takes you to a less populated area of the beach. There are showers there- please rinse

Waterfront park downtown Beaufort. One mile from our home. This is where shops and restaurants are. There are swings right near waterfront where you can sit and enjoy the view or sunset. Great for walking pets, or throwing a football with kids on the lawn. Several restaurants have water view. Many annual festivals are held here. The Beaufort Oyster Festival, conceived as an 11-day festival week coinciding with Tides to Tables in conjunction with South Carolina Restaurant Week and culminating in a weekend of mini-festival events throughout Northern Beaufort County. Enjoy the drinks and entertainment while shucking the “Queen of the Sea Islands”, the elegant oyster.  In February the Beaufort International Film Festival starts, celebrating both the past and the future of filmmaking in Beaufort and the surrounding Sea Islands. For five days, international and local short films, feature films, animation, filmmakers surprises, educational forums, guest speakers, parties, and the quiet charm of historic Beaufort are all on display. The festival recognizes aspiring filmmakers from every genre and showcases the extremely film-friendly region of Beaufort. Complete with concerts, food from local restaurants, a talent show, competitions, children’s programs, arts and crafts, and fireworks, this is the event you won’t want to miss. It has something for people of every age and interest and the schedule changes accordingly every year to keep up with the times. Every year, over 400 volunteers work long hours to bring the events to the Festival. The Festival is able to offer first-class entertainment at reasonable prices because of the generosity of various loyal sponsors. In October, keep your eye out for two big events; the Shrimp Festival and the Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens. During the first weekend in October, the Beaufort Shrimp Festival is one of Beaufort’s highlights every year and it is easy to see why. With FREE admission, the City of Beaufort brings you to the beautiful Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park as the backdrop for this awesome event. 15 local restaurants participate every year and provide a delicious array of shrimp dishes. Towards the end of the month, take this opportunity to attend the Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens. Tour the historic homes located in “The Point” that represent centuries of Beaufort architecture. These houses and affiliated gardens are stilled owned by private families and only open up once a year to the public.  Historic downtown Beaufort brings the holidays to life every year with days of celebration that include seasonal entertainment, shopping, Santa, and parades on land and by sea. “A Night on the Town” begins a three-day event in December, when downtown retailers stay open late and local choirs, dance groups and clubs provide entertainment to downtown visitors. Santa Clause lights the city’s official Christmas tree and the Parris Island Marine Corps band performs holiday hits.

The Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park is located in downtown Beaufort along the waters of the Beaufort River. The multi-acre park provides a breathtaking view of the Beaufort River, the Woods Memorial Bridge, the western tip of Lady's Island, the eastern side of Port Royal Island and the northern tip of Parris Island. Shade trees swaying in the sea breeze provide a relaxing atmosphere. Other amenities include a variety of flowers, shrubs and plants, a stage for performances, a pavilion for displays, and a grassed amphitheater for picnicking, frisbee or simply relaxing. One of the most popular features are the riverside swings, providing a simple opportunity to enjoy gentle sea breezes as a variety of water activities (fishing, boating, etc.) contribute to the relaxing atmosphere.

"Located in the national historic district this waterfront park extends for blocks along the Beaufort River with it's beautiful southern/tropical landscaping, Flowers, Camellias, Magnolias and Palms grace the park as well as an impressive collection of Sago palms. Restaurant back decks and patios flow down to the park that includes a pavilion, stage and amphitheater. There is a marina and with rest rooms as well as winding paths throughout. Many festivals and events are held in the park all year. Walking the park on a warm late summer evening was fantastic."

Our property is located in the Sea Pines area of Hilton Head, a 5,000-acre community with private neighborhoods (which is where we’re located) as well as a resort, forest preserve with horse stables, PGA Tour golf course, marina and town center with shopping and dining options. All other guests have to pay $9 for a day pass to get in here, so we highly recommend exploring all that you can while you're here! Bikes are HIGHLY recommended, as there's many trails to explore!

Grab the beach chairs from the laundry room, pick up some snacks from the Deli and spend the day sunning yourself, swimming in the chilly water, people watching or strolling all the way to No Pass Point. The Beach Club was named top 20 oceanside restaurants in US. It is excellent food and can be pricey. We goto the bar a lot for night caps and sunsets. The windsurfers are there at sunset. Sometimes we walk there, bring headlamps for nighttime, Sea Pines goes dark at night for wildlife. There is a second bar on top..check the Sea Pines app; they have cool jazz many nights and the view and sea breezes are killer!
