How do I pay for a reservation?
Payment: the money a guest pays for a reservation via the secure Airbnb payment system.
You enter your payment details when submitting a reservation request. For a step-by-step guide on submitting a reservation request, please read this FAQ.
We support several payment methods and currencies. Airbnb does not endorse cash payments. Taking payment off-site goes against our Terms of Service and prevents us from being able to provide you customer service or the protection of policies, such as the Guest Refund Policy.
The best way to see what payment options are available to you is to click the Book It button found on a listing's page. Clicking the Book It button does not submit a reservation request. It simply directs you to an initial checkout page where you can review the reservation details. If you do not wish to proceed with a booking, either click your browser's back button or close the browser window.
We collect your payment information at the time you submit your reservation request, but we don’t complete the charge until your reservation request is accepted. Your payment method may be authorized up to the total amount of your reservation, but this authorization is voided and released back to the payment method if the reservation request is retracted, declined, or expires, including service fees.
If the reservation is accepted, the payment is processed and collected by Airbnb in full* and your billing receipt is generated. Whether the reservation is two days or two months away, we hold the payment until 24 hours after check-in before giving it to the host. This gives both parties time to do a walkthrough upon check-in and make sure that everything is as expected.
*Please note: payments for long-term reservations occur on a monthly basis. Read more in this FAQ.
