How does Airbnb verify user information?

Airbnb verifies user information through several different types of verifications, which appear on public Airbnb profiles and represent completed user identification methods.

Verifications help our hosts and guests make more informed decisions about who they meet in the real world. We believe anonymity erodes trust, so we are committed to providing our members with the best decision-making tools possible.

In some situations, Airbnb requires users to get a Verified ID when booking a reservation. With the help of our trusted partners, we match information from your online ID to information from your offline ID. The name provided by both channels must match for Verified ID to succeed. During the verification process, we also require that you upload a profile photo that clearly shows your face.

Airbnb provides additional tools to promote safe interactions and build trust between our community members:

  • Profiles can include up to twenty profile photos and a video profile.
  • Users can write and receive authentic reviews after completing a reservation, a great resource to use when making decisions on where to stay or whom to host.
  • Social Connections allows you to see if people share mutual Facebook friends with you.
  • Hosts can require guests to have Verified ID to send a reservation request.
