I'm a host. Am I required to have a smoke and CO detector installed?
We continue to strongly encourage all hosts to install smoke and CO detectors in their listings, but we will not require hosts to confirm that they've installed these devices in their listings. As with all equipment and amenities that apply to your listing, if you do not have these devices installed, we believe you should clearly and accurately tell guests in your listing’s description that your listing doesn't have a smoke and CO detector.
If you're a host and already have these devices installed, that's great! Please update your listing description to let your guests know you have this important amenity installed.
To help you get started, we're giving away one free combination smoke and carbon monoxide detector to every eligible host in the US who requests one through December 31, 2014. We’re working to expand this initiative around the world. Read more about this offer.
Please be sure to check you local regulations, which may require that you have more than one working smoke and carbon monoxide detector installed in your listing—for example, some cities require one in every room.
