We know hosting can be incredibly rewarding—but occasionally, the unexpected happens. From accidental damage and severe weather to other unforeseen events, sometimes things beyond your control can impact your hosting journey.
That’s why we offer host Earnings Protection insurance—designed to help safeguard your earnings when covered events disrupt your listing. So you can focus on welcoming guests, knowing we’ve got your back if life throws a curveball.
Here’s what you need to know before purchasing an insurance plan to help protect your hosting income:
Airbnb home hosts who live in the United States may have the option to purchase insurance for their US home listing(s). This coverage helps safeguard hosting income from certain unexpected disruptions.
Note: Earnings Protection is not yet available in Indiana, Maine, Missouri, New Jersey, and New York.
Earnings Protection insurance is available to select hosts who have 5 or fewer listings with more than 50 nights reserved within the past year through Airbnb.
Earnings Protection won’t cover issues that you knew about or events that started before the policy purchase date.
Examples of Earnings Protection insurance coverages include:
Coverage amount: Coverage amounts are custom to you and based on your listing’s earnings for the last year. When you purchase Earnings Protection insurance, each listing sees a personalized coverage amount based on earnings in the past year.
Note: The sum insured applies individually to each property listing for which the insurance policy has been purchased. It is important to review the policy document for specific details regarding the coverage for each property.
You can choose to pay the yearly premium, taxes, and fees upfront or set up a monthly payment plan using a US ACH bank account. The total price is calculated based on factors such as your listing type, the location, and your earnings.
You may purchase Earnings Protection insurance for an eligible listing from the Earnings dashboard. If you have multiple listings and you wish to protect your earnings, you’ll need to purchase policies for each listing individually.
For eligible listings, the option to purchase is available from the Airbnb account > Earnings > Financial tools. If available:
If there are any issues with payment, contact us.
Here’s what you need to know after purchasing your policy:
To find your policy number, coverage amount, and full policy details, login to your Airbnb account, go to Earnings > Financial tools and click or tap Earnings Protection. You’ll find the policy number, the coverage amount, and a section to view the full policy.
Earnings Protection policies are not automatically renewed. At 120 days before your policy expiration date, you'll receive a notice by email letting you know:
You can purchase a new policy from the listing's product detail page on the Earnings Dashboard once your current policy has expired. Your new coverage will not begin until the day after you purchase, so there will be a period with no coverage in between.
For example, if your current policy expires on October 27, you can purchase a new policy on October 28, and coverage under the new policy begins on October 29 at 12:01am (local time). If you can, keep this gap in mind for times when coverage matters most to you, such as during hurricane season
To remain eligible for a new policy, you must continue to meet all host and listing eligibility requirements at the time of your new purchase. Eligibility is reviewed at the time of each purchase, and not all hosts or listings will qualify. If you have questions about your eligibility, you can contact the insurer.
You can cancel your policy for a full refund if you cancel within 30 days of purchase.
To cancel your policy, login to your Airbnb account, go to Earnings and click or tap Earnings Protection. You’ll find a Cancel policy section.
Please note that you can’t cancel your policy from your Airbnb account if:
After 30 days, the policy is non-cancelable unless it’s for a reason specified in the policy terms. You can find your listing’s policy documents by going to Earnings > Financial tools > Earnings Protection and selecting the covered listing.
Here’s what you need to know before you submit your claim:
If you’re a first time user, ensure you register your account on the MIC Global claim portal.
To register:
In a Severe Payout Event (ex: hurricane, earthquake, wildfire, etc.), MIC Global may automatically initiate claims for your policy using third party data sources (as outlined in the policy). Once MIC initiates a claim, you will receive an email to verify your loss and complete the process to confirm and attest that the loss occurred.
For claims that don’t qualify as Severe Payout Events and aren’t automatically initiated by MIC Global, you can easily start a claim yourself. Follow the steps outlined in the “Starting a Claim” section and submit your claim for the coverage amount.
You can easily submit a claim for your coverage amount through the MIC global property portal. Also accessible through your Airbnb account, just go to Earnings > Financial tools > Earnings Protection > Start or manage a claim.
Once you’re on the property claim portal, login to your account and submit your claim.
You can manage in progress claims from the Airbnb app. From the Earnings Protection page, you can quickly view the status of open claims and any upcoming payouts. If you need additional information, just tap Review claim details to go to the property claim portal.
In a rare event any claim payment fails, contact MIC global to understand the issue and work with them to resolve it.
MIC Global has dedicated support for Airbnb hosts. If you have questions about your policy, contact them directly via your MIC portal account.
In the event a premium payment installment fails, we’ll attempt to charge the payment method on file 3 times. You will also receive an email with a link and the option to pay from your existing or a different U.S. bank account (credit or debit cards not accepted).
