What to do if your host cancels
We understand how inconvenient a canceled reservation can be so you have a couple of different options if a host cancels:
- Transfer your payment to a new Airbnb reservation
- Get a refund

Transfer your payment to a new Airbnb reservation
If a host cancels, your money is immediately available to use on a new reservation. Follow the steps to book a new listing with your payment.
Step 1 of 4 - Find a new listing
Even if your reservation was canceled close to your trip, there are often other people in the area who would happily host your stay. On Airbnb, look for listings with Instant Book turned on for automatic booking. Or, try messaging hosts to explain your situation.
Step 2 of 4 - Submit a reservation request
Once you’ve confirmed your stay with a new host, submit a reservation request. We’ll automatically transfer the payment and any eligible rebooking credit from your canceled reservation to the cost of your new reservation.
Step 3 of 4 - Note difference in price
If the new reservation costs more than the original, you’ll need to choose a payment type when submitting the reservation request to pay the difference. If the new reservation costs less, you’ll receive a refund for the difference.
Step 4 of 4 - Wait for new reservation request to be accepted
If you used Instant Book when submitting your new request, your reservation has already been accepted.
Otherwise, if the new host doesn’t accept your reservation request, you’ll receive a full refund within 7 business days.
Request a refund
If you’d prefer not to book another space on Airbnb, you can ask for a full refund online at any time. Refunds are not issued automatically, but if you forget to rebook with your funds, you’ll receive a full refund after 30 days.
- Go to Your Trips.
- Find your canceled reservation.
- Click Request a refund.
