Lake Front Cabin on Poskin

KristianRating, 5 stars6 months ago
Our stay was wonderful! It was a men’s weekend for fishing, grilling and time with God. Home was clean, filled with amenities we needed, close to the water and provided a peaceful place for the weekend! Definitely would recommend to others! Monea was always responsive and made sure we felt comfortable during our stay! 5 stars, hands down!

Lower Dreamers on Long Lake-Unit-2-Bedroom

BrendaRating, 5 stars8 months ago
Cherri is very responsive which was much appreciated. The place was a little hard to find at no fault of the owners, but once we did we were set for the week. We had a boat lift to use which was a value add for us. There are several stairs down to the lake but the view at the top is gorgeous. Great restaurants to boat and the sand bar is not far to boat the grandkids out to enjoy the lake. Our dog was right at home too. Thank you Cherri and Paul for your place for the week, we had a very nice time.

Thank you again for another beautiful stay Bethany. The weather was warm enough this time where we got to enjoy smores on the campfire and sat on the dock to watch the beautiful northern lights play across the sky. We hope to come visit again in the not too distant future. Be well and thank you for everything, Karen

Backwoods Lodge🏕 2 cabins & pontoon included!

TinaRating, 5 stars7 months ago
Our large three-generation family group had plenty of room to comfortably spread out between the somwhat dated but clean, homey cabins. What worked out great for us was that the three families with children ages 1-12 and earlier wake up times were able to use the larger space while the smaller cabin accomodated the couples without children and allowed a bit of liesurely vacation sleep-in time. We prepared and ate our communal meals in the larger kitchen and spread beyond the big table to plentiful seating on the large deck. The view from the deck was lovely and the walk to the lake and dock easy going for all ages. We swam every day either from the sandy, pebbly entry to the water or from jumping off the dock and swimming out to the swim pad. The water was clean and relatively free of weeds close in to the dock area. The lake was peaceful and we made plenty of use of the pontoon, canoe and sit-on kayak, caught fish, and never felt crowded. Katelyn was super to work with.

I have sensitivities to smells, chemicals and certain laundry detergent. The tide laundry detergent was strong on the bedding and towels and throughout the house. Other than my issues with strong smells and chemicals, the place was great. Thank you.

Cozy Cabin Close to Snowmobile Trails!

WhitneyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We’ve been here multiple times and it never disappoints. It’s so peaceful, we love walking the trails with our dogs and enjoying nature. Kitchen has everything you need, things are always in good repair, beds are comfortable, and the cabin is cozy. The only thing I wish was different each time is that I had booked an extra day!

Honey Bear Hideaway-cabin in the heart of Hayward

ScottRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This was our 3rd stay at Matt's cottages and the 2nd in this unit in the past month. The studio is all we needed for the night, as it is cozy and beats staying in a motel room. Just a few 100 yards from a great grocery store, McDonalds and the main street of Hayward. Yet, quiet and private. Very nice place to stay.

Black Dog Woodland Suite

KarinRating, 5 stars1 month ago
For people who travel with active dogs, this is an ideal location and host site. Right next to a lake, on private land, on a quiet access road for walking. Matt and Joyce laid out a few extras to show they understand how it is to travel with dogs: a towel to wipe off the feet and a dedicated water dish, among other features. The black squirrel taunted our pups, but he survived their constant attention! Enjoyed waking up to the songs of the blue jays in the morning.

Cozy Cabin in the Woods

AliciaRating, 5 stars2 days ago
This cabin is literally my dreams, we had so much fun enjoying the quiet of nature. The weather was a little unforgiving during our stay but the snow on the cabin and trees was picture perfect romance novel vibes. I think we accidentally left linen not where it was supposed to be(and for that terribly sorry adhd on the brain after scrambling). The entire experience was the coziest I've ever had and my boyfriend is even considering coming back for a warmer getaway. Even everyone we met seemed kind from the get go. 10 outta 10 recommendation. This was a happy birthday for me

The Red Walleye: 22 beds on Big Fish Golf Course

Bluette LauraRating, 5 stars4 months ago
Our group was in Hayward (Reserve) for a retreat at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church - only 10 minutes from this beautiful house. We spent early mornings and late evenings gathered in the kitchen/dining area chatting and enjoying reconnecting with on another. We would definitely return to Jenna's home if the opportunity presents itself. Jenna was amazingly helpful and kind.

such a amazing and beautiful place, the lake is quite and the sunsets are stunning from inside the house or sitting by the fire. Your guide to Hayward

Welcome to Hayward

If you prefer your recreation outdoors, Hayward is an all-terrain, all-season playground, a hub for (honest-to-goodness) lumberjacks, fishers, mountain bikers, and snow-sports enthusiasts alike. Maps of this corner of Northeastern Wisconsin look like a green doily spread over a blue pond — the land is so riddled with lakes that it’s a wonder highways can traverse the region — and the town’s most notable landmark is a giant, toothy statue of a muskie outside the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. Visitors who aren’t paddling or water-skiing may be teeing up on one of the area’s eight golf courses or hiking deep in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. The city of Hayward itself is equal parts rustic and welcoming, with plentiful restaurants (don’t miss Friday night fish fry!) and shops. Wintertime visitors spend their days whizzing through the woods on snowmobiles and skis, returning to town only to warm up.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Hayward

There is never a bad time to visit Hayward, a four-season destination for outdoor activities. That said, the weather in northeastern Wisconsin is never demure: After a too-short spring in May, the temperatures can hit the 80s from June through early September, and all those lakes contribute to the mugginess of the air. Summer is peak season for hikers, fly fishers, and golfers. In July, the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe Tribe, whose lands are just outside town, hold their Honor the Earth Pow Wow, drawing people from all over the Upper Midwest. The lakes grow slightly quieter in the fall, though off-road bikers descend on Hayward in September for the Chequamegon MTB Festival. From October through April, temperatures drop below — sometimes far below — the freezing point, and the thick layer of snow turns Hayward into a playground for snowmobile riders and cross-country skiers.

Top things to do in Hayward

Fishing

The 56,000 acres of water in the Hayward Lakes Area are legendary among Wisconsin’s anglers, who hop from lake to lake in search of walleye, bluegill, and some of the largest muskies the Midwest produces. Chippewa Flowage is the area’s largest lake, and Lac Courte Oreilles and Round Lakes two of the clearest. Outfitters in town will supply whatever you need for a day of fishing, and you can find guide services and boat rentals if you don’t tow your own. Taking a break on land? Stop by the National Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame for education programs, displays of lures and record-sized catches, and perhaps a Bigfoot sighting.

Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest

Drive east on Highway 77 from Hayward for about 40 miles and you enter the 858,400-acre Chequamegon National Forest. Hundreds of miles of trails for hikers and mountain bikers bring you through leafy stands of maple and oak, wide swaths of white pine, and deep ravines, and there are dozens of campgrounds to stake a tent in. If you connect with the North Country Scenic Trail, you may encounter weathered backpackers making their way along this eight-state route. In winter, dedicated bikers swap out their summer rides for fat-tire bikes, sharing the groomed trails with snowshoers.

Lumberjack Sports

Hayward is home to the Lumberjack World Championships every July, when burly woodspeople compete in speed-climbing, chopping, sawing, and the ever-popular log-rolling competitions. From May through September, the arena hosts a popular lumberjack show five days a week, with a family-friendly mix of comedy skits and feats of skill. Even if you can’t swing an ax yourself, you can putt-putt on a lumberjack mini golf course and load up on woodsy souvenirs.
