Magasinn is a combination of a small design store and lodging space, offering guests time to experience carefully selected products, books, and artwork overnight.

We changes its content regularly, providing guests with new ideas and new topics, just like an actual magazine.

The building is a renovated two-story wooden machiya, a symbol of Kyoto. It is reserved exclusively for one group per day.

We look forward to meeting new ideas from all over the world.

The space
Once I was reading my favorite magazine, I imagined how amazing if I could live in this art of editing: the story of seasonal experiences with delicately selected products.

Magasinn is a combination of a design store and lodging space that gives you the time to experience selected products, books and artworks for a night. By referring the form of magazine, Magasinn changes its contents periodically like a quarterly, which provides new ideas and emerging topics to guests like an actual magazine.

The building is a renovated two-story wooden machiya, a symbol of Kyoto, with one room on the second floor consisting of two 6-mat rooms joined together, with futon bedding for up to five guests. They are separated from the store by a sliding door with a lock to ensure privacy. There is also a private bathroom and toilet.

Right next to the entrance, there is a white tile box, used to be a milk fridge, called Fukurotoji: means a sealed-page in a magazine in Japanese. It may be one of the smallest and the most experimental exhibition space in Kyoto. At the back, there is also a small but pleasing Japanese garden called Tsuboniwa, which let the entire building breath.

Currently, store is open only on weekends and holidays from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Where you’ll be

Kyoto, Kyōto-fu, Japan

The neighborhood is one of the most traditional area called Kamigyo-ku in Kyoto. There are also many traditional sites such as Nijo-jo castle and Imperial Court in walkable distance. We personally recommend local small shops with new concepts that is creating communities in their own directions.
