Eat, drink and shop til’ you drop. The Fort Worth Herd presents Stockyard visitors with a glimpse into Fort Worth’s rich Western heritage with our very own cattle drive. In preserving its heritage as Cowtown, the City of Fort Worth has its own herd of Texas Longhorns – one for each decade of Fort Worth’s 170-year history. Every day at 11:30AM (weather permitting), the cattle drive travels through the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards on East Exchange Avenue in front of the Livestock Exchange Building. Every detail of the cattle drive—from the saddles and chaps to the boots and hats – is authentic and historically true. The Fort Worth Herd steers can be viewed and photographed daily in their pens behind the Livestock Exchange building on East Exchange Avenue. Hours of Operation: Daily | 11:30AM

When we're in town full-time, we always have a yearly pass to the zoo. Fort Worth zoo is regularly rated one of the top zoos in the country. During summer, there's even a splash park inside, so we'll see the zoo, and then cool off at the splash park once everyone gets too hot. There are several indoor exhibits, so it's very easy to get out of the sun. Our kids' favorite is getting shaved ice from Kona Ice while we walk around.

Our favorite time to attend during busy days is in the afternoon. The crowds have started to dissipate and it can be easier to find parking. If you plan to attend in the morning, we recommend arriving slightly before 10:00 in order to beat the traffic! Bring a swimsuit during summer months to attend the splash pad before or after visiting the animals.

While there are 25 different garden spaces located within the Fort Worth Botanic Garden, the Rose Garden is perhaps the most iconic. It was completed in 1933 - a year before the Fort Worth Botanic Garden was established - and built with 4000 tons of Texas sandstone to create multiple levels of blooming beauty. Start at the top of the Rose Ramp, where the open-air Shelter House sits high above the Lower Rose Garden and Reflection Pond, then walk down stone steps amid rose flowerbeds that frame a cascading waterfall. The Rose Garden is one of the most beautiful and romantic spots in Fort Worth (many proposals and weddings take place here) and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame celebrates the women who helped shape the American West. Amazing burgers! We started with the Cheese Fries Surprise as an appetizer - a must! The "Surprise" is chili on top, so you can get them "No Surprise." I ordered the Chupacabra burger. The patty was so good! They have Happy Hour Monday-Friday from 4-7 where you can get $1 off beers. The food here is great, so check this place out!

Amid the concrete jungle that is downtown Fort Worth lies a tranquil oasis. The Fort Worth Water Gardens is an urban park designed by Philip Johnson (who also designed the Amon Carter Museum of American Art) hidden below terraced knolls., where multiple pools provide for a calming and rejuvenating experience. The gardens' signature feature is the cascading active pool, where steps lead to almost 40 feel below ground level. The powerful sound of flowing water surrounds those who venture to the bottom, drowning out city noise from above at street level. There's also a reflecting pool that sits below 22-foot walls. Both are perfect places to sit with a cup of coffee or lunch to-go. Put away the phone, and take in the serene surroundings.

This urban park is frequently billed as a "cooling oasis in the concrete jungle" of downtown. Its focal points are three pools of water and a terraced knoll, which helps to shield the park from the rest of the City. Interstate 30 was relocated from its former site immediately adjacent to the Water Gardens, making the south end of the park quieter. The park is now situated adjacent to Lancaster Avenue, recently landscaped and prepared for redevelopment. The quiet, blue meditation pool is encircled with cypress trees and towering walls that are covered in thin plane of water that cascades almost 90 degrees down to the sunken blue water feature. The sound of the water on the walls evokes thoughts of a gentle rain shower. The aerating pool features multiple illuminated spray fountains under a canopy of large oak trees. The main attraction of the Water Gardens is the active pool, which has water cascading 38 feet (11 m) down terraces and steps into a small pool at the bottom. The active pool experience was built for people to be able to walk down the terraced steps to be surrounded by and experience the power, sounds and motion of water crashing around them.

If NASCAR or INDYCAR racing is your scene then you’ll love being so close to Texas Motor Speedway (20-25 minutes away). Enjoy your time at the races and then come relax at the lake. Texas Motor Speedway plays host annually to the only stops in the Lone Star State for the stars of NASCAR and INDYCAR racing such as Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, James Hinchcliffe, Marco Andretti and Scott Dixon. The racing season schedule for "The Great American Speedway!" centers on three major weekends - the Vankor 350 My Bariatric Solutions 300, and the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 NASCAR tripleheader in the spring, the SpeedyCash 400 and the DXC Technologies 600 INDY/NASCAR doubleheader in June, and O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 and AAA Texas 500 NASCAR doubleheader in November. When you go, be sure to stop in to the T&P train station right across Lancaster for it's fantastic restored Art Deco space, now often used for weddings or other events. Just past that you'll find the T&P Tavern, a real hidden gem with a style and flair that will make you feel like it's 1915 again.
