I am pretty obsessed with food and cooking, especially when I travel. I always try to rent a flat or house, so I can experiment with local cuisines using local products. Edouard's expertise, enthusiasm and genuine warmth was a delight for my adventure. Triple points for being fluent in English and French, which allowed me to communicate with the vendors, ask them questions and learn so much about their products. I was meeting other friends traveling to Aix, and wanted to make a delicious dinner party for them. Edouard met me at a lovely cafe in the morning where I had a delicious flakey and tender croissant and coffee to start the day. He introduced me to several of his favorite vendors and we perused the entire market so I could assess what was available, what looked good, and was given samples to taste before I made my final decision on a menu for the dinner. In the end, I settled on beautiful fresh oysters to start from the oyster monger, a beautiful sea-bream for a light fish consume seasoned with young leeks, carrot and fennel, a simple mixed salad with a french vinaigrette, and 3 superb types of mushrooms (I bought $120 worth!) to make homemade fettuccine in a mushroom cream sauce. And of course, beautiful wine, cheese and bread throughout the evening. Everything was AMAZING. My friends absolutely loved the meal, and loved Edouard and his beautiful wife, whom I invited to join us... because I've made a new friend in Provence! Cannot recommend highly enough, even if you don't want to cook a feast... the products in Provence are some of the best in the world. Not to be missed.

Wonderful day in the sunny markets! The food was colourful beyond belief, mouth-watering-ly aromatic, and an experience to remember. We even added a coffee and wine stop for my personal indulgence. Thanks a million!

A great way to kick-off a discovery of Aix-en-Provence. A sure way of getting to know the city, its life and get the insights that only a local would know!

Had a really great tour of marché Richelme with Edouard, right in the old town of Aix. Edouard asked me what foods I was most interested in and we went to the different stands accordingly. I was after some good jam so Edouard made sure i was able to sample Christophe’s 60% fruit homemade selection. My personal « péché mignon » being cheese, the tour was fantastic (at least 5 or 6 different stands to choose from and.... oh my god that fresh goat cheese!!!) - and i have to say that the surprise coming out of left field (and now a little favorite) was mushrooms.. It’s mushroom season (which i had not payed attention to, but since Edouard goes there every day, he knows !!) All round a great tour for people wishing to discover the southern french markets, or for those (like me) wishing to go on a local product shopping spree. Great tour!

Passed a super great time together with Edouard at the local markets at Aix! We started the tour with a coffee at a nice café close-by the first market and had a little time to chat and talk about which food interests me most and what I would like to discover during our tour. The first market was marché Richelme where we checked out local vegetable and fruits. Edouard knew most of the sellers in person and had some anequdotes to tell about each of them and the food they sell. Therefore I really felt like being with a local and do the market shopping the French way. What I really appreciated was, that Edouard pointed out specific products from Provence and explained how to properly prepare and eat them. At marché Richelme I bought typical goat cheese with ail from a charming lady, who produces her cheese herself as well as lavender honey, another speciality of the region. We continued our tour at marché de prêcheurs. Also there Édouard knew most of the sellers in person and could give me good advice which product would suit me best. Being a sweet tooth, I bought a fantastic apricot marmelade with lavender as well as some very delicious green plums, that I've never seen before. As I had expressed specific interest in Callisons, the typical almond patisserie from Aix, we also stopped by one of the most ancient stores in the centre which helped me to get some really high quality Calissons. This is not easy without guidance as they are sold mostly everywhere in the city and it's a challange to divide the high quality products from the not so good ones. Afterwards we visited a bakery, where I bought an olive bread which matched preferctly with the cheese I bought before. We also stopped by a very charming Fromagerie, where I bought Banon, another typical cheese from the region wrapped in chestnut leaves. We finished the tour with another coffee at a café. I really enjoyed my time with Edouard, as he made me feel very welcome from the very first minute. He paid a lot of attention to individualize the tour and fit it to my interests. In addition he speaks French and English, so you can choose whatever you prefer. I highly recommend this tour, it's a very good start to learn about the food of the Provence and return home with a bag of provence specialities and great memories of a very unique tor.
