What you'll do

*Never forget that the Vesuvius has created a huge tragedy, Hercualenum is the proof more than Pompeii.
There are no other example of a so well preserved roman city in the world.

Do you want to visit corners of the city where tourists don't arrive? Do you want to relive the feelings of the last hours of the Roman colony with the expertise of a local archeologist? What better way to do it than with a Vesuvian archaeologist and licensed guide! Explore the ancient city, its ruins and take a journey back in time.

After an introduction about history and the beginning of the excavations, our Tour starts from the ancient shoreline where people tried to find a refuge from the heat...

Walking through the roman gate and the city walls, we will reach the vibrant center of the town where we could still see wooden stairs, second floor, shops with incredible marble decorations, houses with intact rich painting walls and mosaics made of gold!
Together we'll understand how could work a roman bath house.
With great critical sense we will understand the reason for the interruption of the excavations and how the modern restorations are proceeding.

At the end of the tour i will also show you a Roman boat CARBONIZED by the eruption truly intact and some artifacts discovered by my Professor during the last excavations of the '80s.

What are you waiting for? It's not a common tour.

Ciao!

Ciao explorers!
I'm a Neapolitan Archaeologist with 12 years of field experience on my neck and I'm an Official Tour Guide of the Campania Region. I have a degree in Archaeology, a master in Classical Archaeology and a Ph.D. in Archeological Heritage. Also, I work on archeological excavations here in Naples.
Since I was a child, I have always loved the ancient history of Greece and Rome as well as art from the Middle Ages to the 20th (1900s).

My co-hosts/friends and I are ALL official guides and archeologists who all studied at the University of Naples Federico II. We'll offer our guide's skills of years and knowledge and a deep understanding of local culture, art, history, archaeology, and more for those who want to understand and investigate the incredible richness of Herculaneum and...we are local :)

Michele was a great host of Herculaneum and I would suggest his tour if you are to visit. There is just so much to learn that you would not get without a guide and Michele was welcoming and knowledgable. I also enjoyed talking about Napoli calcio with Michele. Forza Napoli!

When Raffaele was 30 seconds into the tour, I already had goosebumps. His story telling brought thousands of years of history to life, and brought the tradgedy and human suffering of an ancient even to the surface. He also fostered a deep appreciation for the brilliance of ancient Romans. Raffaele seemed to know every single facet of Roman history, from architecture, culture, society, politics, religion, and more. My partner and I are nerds about history, and came to the tour loaded with questions. Raffaele answered all of them and then some, impressing us with his expansive knowledge on seemingly everything Roman. Combined with his kindness, attentiveness, care, and warmth, this was the best tour I've had in my life.

Our guide Teresa was extremely knowledgeable, fabulous and super friendly. She is an archaeologist and still working in the profession, so she could answer any and all questions about Herculaneum. We really loved the little personal stories about the archaeological field and how you really find, dig up and preserve findings. I really enjoyed the experience 10/10 would recommend <3

What a great experience! Even with the Covid restrictions, he showed us much more in 2 hours than we could have seen in a whole day, he also showed how much knowledge he’s accumulated over 10 years. Truly awesome experience

Our tour of Herculaneum with Raffaele was top-notch. He was super friendly and highly passionate and knowledgable about both the historical site and Southern Italy in general. Throughout the tour, Raffaele was keen to ensure that members of our group were engaged and enjoying this incredible experience. When we return to the region we'll be sure to take one of his other tours around the city of Naples. Highly recommended!!
