What you'll do

In this fun introductory class you will get familiar with the potters wheel and learn what it is like to have a go at throwing.

On arrival at our Studio, you’ll be warmly welcomed as you join the rest of your small group. The workshop begins with a full demonstration of the pot throwing process, given by one of our expert potters. You will then be individually assigned a potter’s wheel for the duration of the workshop and its your turn to get hands-on and have fun practising your pottery skills! An experienced tutor will be on hand throughout offering practical tips and guidance. You will learn the 5 basic steps in making a pot, from centering, opening out and pulling up the walls of your pots, using specialist tools. You may create as many pots as you wish on the session, using an unlimited supply of clay. As a beginner, your pots tend to be super wobbly and often collapse but it’s all part of the fun and the normal learning curve of a potter!

After creating some truly unique pieces of all shapes and sizes, you will have the opportunity to select your favourite pot to have fired & glazed as a lasting memento. This is an additional cost and the process takes approx. 6 weeks after which you will be notified via email about collection or postage can be arranged.

I am the co-owner of Honeybourne Pottery with my wife Annabel, a family business established in 2001. Together we have over 25 years of experience in making & teaching clay based workshops and classes for individuals, families & large groups. As part of our training we both undertook an intensive 2 year ceramics apprenticeship upon achieving BA Hons degrees.

Located on the edge of the North Cotswolds in the pretty village of Honeybourne, our lovely studio and natural surroundings are ideal for inspiring creativity. As well as offering high quality pottery experiences, we also produce a collection of hand-crafted ceramics available to buy at the studio.

Where you'll be

We are located on the edge of the North Cotswolds border in the historic village of Honeybourne. The Studio has lots of character and charm and is situated in the oldest part of the village in a 19th century Victorian property, containing many original features such as flag stone floors, original fireplaces & beams.

Unfortunately we don't have our own car park, however on-street parking is available outside or a short walk from the studio.

We had a great time at Honeybourne Pottery making a mess and eventually some pots, that were good enough for us to want to keep! Alan and Annabel were lovely hosts. If you've been thinking about trying pottery or just want to try something new, I'd highly recommend doing it here. They have everything you need to get you started. Parking was a little difficult but we found somewhere not too far away

A fantastic experience- I absolutely loved giving this a go and would definitely do it again. In a short time myself and my husband were able to create something and it was great that we could just try and try again!
