What you'll do

We'll begin with a bit of history. Why are fries called "French Fries" ?
Is it a Belgian invention ?

We'll carry on with a technical approach, temperature, kind of potato, Oil or Fat, material, etc.

After that we will continue in the kitchen where we'll cut, cook and eat our own fries !

I own 4 traditional "Friterie", we sell more than 300kg of potato each day.
We cook our fries following the traditional method, we cut and cook them twice at different temperatures.

With more than 10 years in the business i'll be your guide to make perfect fries !

Where you'll be

The activity will take place in an old Fire station built by Joseph Poelaert in 1860. Deserted since 1970, it has been transformed into a "friterie".

We'll have the chance to do the workshop in the "canopy" with a beautiful and aerial view on the most mythic flea market in Brussels.

We had a wonderful experience with Elodie! She is a native of “lower” Brussels and shared her affection for the local culture— including the food, of course! It was much more interesting to make the traditional Belgian fries after having heard more about the tradition/culture that they come from. I had booked this because my son was interested, but our whole family really enjoyed ourselves. The fries were delicious, but we also enjoyed the drinks and snacks. Actually, we felt as if we’d had an entire meal, and she offered us more if we wanted. I found it particularly nice to try all the sauces at my leisure so that I know which ones I prefer. There were many small touches, like advice about parking and other activities, too. All in all just a wonderful experience, a must-do in Brussels!

We had a great time learning about Frites with Elodie! She taught us a lot about the history of fries and also the process on how to make them. It was really fun trying to make them ourselves and trying the different sauces.

Thibault's sister Élodie was the host. She was amazing! I was by myself for this tour and she really took good care of me. Quite fun and super informative, I was really surprised to see how thorough she was with the history and process of fries making. I actually took notes. And the fries were amazing! I will say this is the best food tour I've ever done.

Excellent experience! Fun little tour around the square quickly before entering the restaurant to learn some history about frites, and then into the kitchen to make some of our own! The host made it fun with little games along the way, and there was lots of tasty food and flavors to try. Had a wonderful time! Felt very unique, we enjoyed it a lot.

This was an awesome experience! Elodie was friendly, knowledgable and taught us everything we needed to know in order to make our own Fries back home. My partner and I had a wonderful time and would happily recommend this to anyone.
