I was born in mombasa and have lived here for 27years. My interest in the people and culture of the coastal people i live amidst influenced my interest in learning more about them.
I have a great love cultural diversity which has forced me to travel allover East Africa to towns like Arusha, moshi, zanzibar, morogoro, kampala, kasese,Fort Portal, masaka, iganga, mbale.huh the list is long.
I have learnt alot on the different cultures and foods.
I hope i can specifically share with you an experience on coastal foods and drinks.

The tour was great - William has a really in-depth knowledge of Mombasa, and we learned something about the town's history as well as being introduced to some great food, which he explained the different benefits and uses of. The only thing we would say is that William arrived around one hour late to the tour - this was for a good reason, but could have been communicated better on the day.

Waniala's tour was a really wonderful experience. I got to know about the history of Mombasa while enjoying the delicious street food. He was very knowledgeable about the foods we ate and he went above and beyond to ensure that I got to eat the street Chapati after I mentioned that I would like to taste it.

Waniala was able to find a lot of the hidden spots where street food was sold although it was just after the holidays with a few vendors taking time off. Since it was in the morning some of the foods were a bit sweet for me however I really appreciated the tour of the surroundings. Also there were quite a bit of natural juices and healthy things to try as well. I was also able to practice some of the local language with the residents there with Waniala’s help which was quite fulfilling for me. Waniala’s expertise on Mombasa and it’s history and developments was eye-opening. I feel i left with more cultural understanding which I’ve been able to share with my social circle.

If you love Street food, this is an experience to go for ! As a vegetarian, I was so happy to be able to sample different type of foods. I love the fact that Waniala really took his time to learn about where I was from, what I wanted to try or not etc. There was a lot of attention. He literally has made the experience really cool ! At the end of the experience, I had a doggy bag with the food we had during the day. It is a wonderful way to discover Mombasa, contribute to local street food small businesses and have a good time !

Best food tour I have ever been on and I've been on a few. Partly because of the food itself, delicious hard to find spots that tell the story of Mombasa. Partly because of Waniala and his charasmatic presentation and wonderful way of weaving together bits of history, cultural insights, and personal stories. By the end it felt as if I was visiting my old friend and he was showing all of his favourite spots. As an added bonus, he helped me navigate the matatu system back to my Airbnb. It was the perfect way to start my Kenya trip. Would HIGHLY recommend
