About your host

I am a British bladesmith whose work has been shown across the world via the History Channel as part of the ‘Forged in Britain’ films to support the US ‘Forged in Fire’ series. My interest is in historically significant weapons. I demonstrate and make replicas for museums, and run an international sword event in Britain.

What we’ll do

You will make your own knife to take home from forged iron, steel, and cast bronze in a historic Saxon/Viking charcoal or blacksmith's coal forge. You will hammer glowing metal on the anvil to shape it, and then quench it to harden by plunging it, red hot, into oil. After grinding the blade to shape, we'll smooth and polish it. I’ll teach you about form, materials, and design from the ancient…

What else you should know

You will need to wear practical clothes and safe footwear. Safety equipment will be provided, but feel free to bring your own, and a favorite hammer or materials.

What I’ll provide

Buckets of tea
Equipment
Forge and all materials

Where you'll be

You will work in my forge, which is handcrafted from local timber and looks out over Golden Valley, protected woods, in the county of Surrey. While this is a quiet and tranquil place, it is quite close to London, and Surrey is full of interesting places to stay and visit.
