What you'll do

Learn how to make authentic Kanazawa meals inspired by seasonal ingredients picked up at Omicho Market.
Omicho market is a large outdoor fish and produce market, and where the locals head to when there are looking for the freshest ingredients. Affectionately known as “Kanazawa’s Kitchen”, this is a lively area located within walking distance from Kanazawa station. Our resident IN KANAZAWA HOUSE cooking expert has created this experience to teach you the wonders of Kanazawa through its unique food culture.
You will not only learn how to best enjoy fresh seafood and Kaga vegetables the Kanazawa way, but will be able to do so in a traditional machiya house that is filled with history. Experience this course and learn how to make authentic ‘dashi’ stock, traditional Kanazawa dishes, and more that you can recreate back home.
Details of your cooking experience will differ depending on the date, and season. Your cooking experience will consist of either the 1) Tempura Cooking Experience, or 2) Sushi-Making Experience. Please contact our staff for more information

Hi! My name is Naoko!

I am a food coordinator in Kanazawa, and I will teach you everything you need to know about Kanazawa food. I used to work in the entertainment industry, but decided to become a cooking teacher 2 years ago.

I grew up in this city, and have always had a love for this city’s food culture since I was young. My mother is also a cooking teacher, and taught me everything I need to know about Kanazawa cuisine.

Learn about Kanazawa history through delicious recipes, and experience a different side of Japan with me!

Where you'll be

The experience will be held in a traditional Kanazawa-style house. This is a large, and spacious wooden building with traditional design and architecture, in addition to a beautiful garden! We renovated this building to not only help preserve Kanazawa history, but to provide guests with an interesting venue to experience Kanazawa culture!

Fantastic experience. You work in a beautiful studio in an old kemono workshop. The hosts are very friendly and really went out of their way to help us. The food we made was excellent and easily something we could add to our weekly meals. Really fantastic experience

Naoko and Fumi were so passionate, welcoming and nice! This was an amazing experience. They explained the history and culture around the dishes and ingredients. Naoko encouraged everyone to try the techniques and even remained to talk after the event had finished. She took many pictures and shared them with us later. It was definitely worth booking the event! Highly recommended.

Naoko was the consummate professional, able to answer all of our questions while she demonstrated and supervised our participation. We cooked a delicious meal and enjoyed practicing some new skills which we will use again. There were no language difficulties with Fumi standing by to translate when needed. We had a really enjoyable time!

This was an essential part of our stay! Naoko-san and her translator Fumi-san were so kind and warm. We learned a lot about cooking, but more about Kanazawa and Japanese culture in general. The house is gorgeous and this was an incredible value. She also gave us excellent recommendations around town!

Naoko’s cooking experience was absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the Kanazawa area. She was extremely nice and knowledgeable in cooking. The food was absolutely delicious and the cooking/food experience was well worth the cost. This is not the only thing however! Naoko took the time after the meal to give us a tour of In Kanazawa house, a refurbished geisha kimono dying house. She then also helped us get to the tea shop after the meal as I wanted to purchase some of the amazing tea. Altogether this was one of the best experiences I had during my Japan trip.
