History of The Memphis Cotton Exchange

History of The Memphis Cotton Exchange

We will begin the tour starting at the Original Cotton Exchange Building by Court Square Park. I'll take you up to the trading floor, with beautiful mosaic tile floors (with bear and bull mosaic tiles) and 25' ceilings with gorgeous crown moldings. This will give you an idea of the wealth of the commodity exchange…

I work at the Original Cotton Exchange building in Memphis, TN (Memphis Merchants Exchange) and have private access to the original mosaic tile trading floor, where fortunes were won and lost during 1910s & 1920s. We will also visit the Cotton Museum a couple blocks away, which tells a story of Cotton in the City of Memphis and how it affected trade and commerce in the 20th Century.

Where you'll be

We will have private access to the original trading floor in the Exchange Building (circa 1910), we can go on the rooftop (if you're not scared) and take some pictures of the skyline and the Mississippi River (this is not publicly accessible, so you'll have to sign a waiver to view it). We'll then walk over to the latter Cotton Exchange Building on Union Avenue to see the Cotton Museum.
