What you'll do
We’ll experience Japanese culture through traditional food eaten daily in a typical household. Sushi, Tempura or Sukiyaki are a bit lavish for a daily meal. Japanese people tend to eat simple comfort food at home. Our menu will follow the principles of “Ichiju-Sansai”: that is, one soup and three side dishes, recognized by UNESCO for as Intangible Cultural Heritage. We’ll learn how the food culture relates to Shinto concepts of "Hare” (Sacred), representing the rituals, festivals, and annual events that are a special meal, and “Ke” (Secular), representing the ordinary meal of daily life. Our menu will use seasonal ingredients so you can experience Japanese daily life and food culture in harmony with nature and the four seasons. I will also teach you Japanese table manners.

I learned about the daily meal of "Ke” from my grandma and mom, and the special meal of "Hare” from my dad, an Embassy Chef. During my childhood and over the past 20 years, I gained a sense of various dishes in different environments. In Japan, we never eat Sushi every day, and we typically eat homemade seasonal meals. Let's try daily Japanese cuisine and get to know real Japanese culture.
Where you'll be
We’ll be in Aoyama, a popular destination known for its fashionable shopping and upscale residential area. It’s near Omotesando Station and you can access the area easily from everywhere.
