What you'll do

We will be taking a stroll around the block of Florida road and Windemere road. With gorgeous views of the city and elaborate graffiti work, Morningside offers a relaxing experience for residents and visitors. Experience local life as we take a local taxi ( called combi in SA) to a street market. We will begin at the Florida Fields building and walk down to the first park on Gordon road to see the promise to Mandela locks then up to the cube where you can see the ocean, Moses Mabhida, Kings Park and the entire center of the bustling city of Durban. Finally we will head down to Mitchell park to see the statue of the Zulu King, Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu. At each stop I will be explaining the significance of the place we’re in.
Other things to note
This walk is approximately 2.7kms. Please bring R10.00ZAR for the taxi ride.

This experience was everything we had hoped for and more. Really amazing! We got to see Durban and modern South Africa through the eyes of a young local from the Zulu cultural group, who shared her favourite places, music and views about the past and the future. A very personal and enjoyable experience - and you can have really insightful conversations, if you want to.

Wow! All I can say is - book this experience!! Mandy is seriously amazing. She is fun, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic - while also serious, cultured, and truly insightful about her Zulu traditions and heritage. It was amazing coming from the US to learn just how much I didn’t know, that I thought I at least had a partial understanding of. I learned so much. Mandy and I were able to have academic discourse on topics that we saw differently, each leaving the experience understanding the reasons we have our different perspective. Not to mention that she speaks exact and articulate English, but in a snap, she can transition into perfect Zulu. I appreciate her efforts to preserve and teach about her culture, and also how well she was able to go with the flow, since my schedule required us to go out of her traditional order. The entire experience was intentionally curated and so unique; it was one of a kind. Exceeded my expectations in every category. Mandy is an exceptional human. I know she will continue on in life to do something truly special. I left this day inspired. Thank you.

We really enjoyed the walk with Mandy! She showed us some of the significant spots in the Morningside area of Durban (monuments, art, train station, etc...) and talked to us about the history and culture of the city. She also told us about her life, her music, family, and experiences. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn, have fun, and make a new friend!

Mandy's walk around the block was very interesting and informative, I learned a lot about the local culture, artists and the issues the young generation of South Africans face in the present day Durban/South Africa. The walk commenced and ended on a bustling Florida Road, we visited the local marketplace and few monuments in the area which are of historic and cultural importance to Zulu population of KwaZulu-Natal. The tour was a complete eye opener to me, as I came to South Africa quite unaware of the local culture and customs. Highly recommended!
