What you'll do

We will meet by the fountain in Mariatorget square, within easy access from Södra and Mariatorget stations. We will do quick introductions and I will share with you what to look out for in every store we go to and explain how to quickly find a standout piece, by evaluating the fabric and the cut. Finally, based on my own experience, I will give you ideas on how to update any pieces you may find for even edgier looks - with no special skills but cutting and very basic sewing. To do so, I will bring out my sewing kit and an item I am currently working on - an oversized mens shirt, which will very soon become a Reformation-inspired summer dress. Enough talking - let’s get shopping! We will be visiting 5 locations on our tour - Stadsmission, Humana, Siv & Åke, Emmaus Vintage, and a sewing supplies store Tygeverket, where you can buy buttons, zippers, or thread to upgrade your buys. We will finish the tour near a larger Emmaus thrift store, which you can explore in your own time. I will also provide you with tips on the other hub of second hand stores one metro station ride away (Slussen to Zinkensdamm). And if by this point in time you decide to switch to a more usual format of shopping - Götgatan is home to all the mainstream high-street brands

Diana

I am an avid thrift shopper, with over 99% of my clothing purchases these days being second hand or vintage. Over the years I’ve rummaged through second hand stores everywhere from London's Primrose Hill to Tokyo's Harajuku. Now that I am an Airbnb host in Stockholm, I often get questions about less traditional shopping destinations, so I’ve prepared a tour around my favourite local thrift shopping spots. My entire life revolves around creativity and aesthetics - I work at a design agency by day, and style fashion photoshoots on weekends. For me, buying second hand is not just about saving money or doing my bit for the environment, it’s also a way to dress more uniquely and let my creativity flow as I adjust the pieces I buy. I can’t wait to share my passion and help you find standout clothing at a wallet-friendly price.

Where you'll be

Stadsmission is one of Sweden's largest charity shop chains with a broad selection of clothing - a great starting point! Humana is a fashion-forward boutique, popular among stylists, with bold original pieces from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Siv & Åke are all about quality - expect silk, leather and cashmere at a fraction of the cost! Finally, Emmaus Vintage greets you with a grand entrance and extravagant looks. Check them all out on Instagram!
