What you'll do

This is not a regular city walk, but a passage through a town frozen in time. It will give you an insight into the current situation of the Buffer Zone “Green Line” off the beaten track, on streets that are hard to discover without the experience of a local guide. You will see the Venetian walls and how they form a boarder around the Old City, so unusual that once seen on a map will never be forgotten as a design synonymous with the unique shape of this ancient fortification.
On our walk we will explore the Southern side of the city and follow the infamous “Green line” that cuts through the centre, separating the city into southern and northern sections. This division has kept the two major communities, of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots apart for more than four decades. Our journey begins at the Ledra Palace Hotel known in its era as the largest and most majestic hotels of the capital.
You will witness life having evolved along either side of this schism, something once impossible to do until recent agreements between the two sides to open border crossings. We will explore Ledra Street located at heart of the aforementioned walled city now once again rekindled to one of the most popular pedestrian commercial streets accented by abandoned buildings reclaimed by nature through decades of lost time scarred by bullet holes, military outposts and barricades.

Hello (Yiasou)
My name is Eleni and I have been living in Cyprus for over 35 years now. I don’t think you can really pin down my true nationality, my accent tends to be a mixture of all my travels combined and countries I have lived around the world. Born in London to a Polish Mother and Greek Cypriot Father, I am fluent in English and Greek with a strong knowledge of Polish.
I love nothing more than sharing the sights, sounds and secrets with intimate knowledge of the best places off the beaten path, on streets rarely discovered. I've been leading recreational walks for many years, purely out of interest and passion for my city. I enjoy connecting and showing people around this great city and I feel the best way to connect is on foot!
The intention is to leave you with an insider’s perspective of Nicosia.

Where you'll be

During the morning walk we shall take a short break at a traditional Cypriot pastry and coffee shop serving locals for over 76 years, where you will delight in the melt-in-your-mouth pastries, of which their cheese and olive pies are to die for!
If you choose to include the afternoon trip we will visit the city’s first microbrewery situated inside a restored house from 1910, the beer is handcrafted, unfiltered and brewed on-site!

Eleni and Nicosia were just magical. Eleni is the warmest and most lovely person to go on an experience like this with. She took the time and connected very personally and respectfully. Always making me feel comfortable and welcome in her beautiful country and city. We laughed. We told stories. We just had the most memorable experience ever in my travels. Thank you so much Eleni.

I really enjoyed the tour with Eleni. I had a few questions before booking and she was very detailed, responsive and patient with me. During the tour she was very informative and great at answering my many questions. She shared personal experiences that she and her family had during the war and in the time since. She was excited to show me points of interest and our stop at a local coffee house was like seeing old friends for both of us. She also shared several recommendations for the rest of my visit to Cyprus. Highly recommend this tour with Eleni. She clearly takes pride in her city and really works hard to create a great experience. You won’t be disappointed!

Where can I even begin? Eleni is far more than a tour guide: she is a wonderful storyteller and an incredibly thoughtful host. There was no one else on our tour, so Eleni adapted the tour for us, taking us deeper into Northern Cyprus. We learned so much about the two "sides" of Cyprus. WIth Eleni in charge, history came to life. As she guided us around the winding streets of both sides of the Buffer Zone, she told us fascinating stories about her life living around the world, returning to Cyprus just as the conflict began, and then after the buffer zone had been erected. She showed us the extent of the damage that still remains from the conflict, but also the areas around the border where cafes and bookshops are rapidly opening. This tour was one of my best ever Airbnb experiences, a tour that could only be done with an extremely knowledgeable, warm, and friendly guide like Eleni. On top of the fantastic tour, she then took the time to send us a ton of information on how to travel by public transportation, because we have no car. That was so thoughtful of her and just goes to show how much she cares about her guests. Thank you, Eleni, for such a fun, educational, and eye-opening tour!

Eleni has a great passion for her city and country. We had a great walk through a part of Nicosia that has tremendous history - both old and recent. Quite a great day.

Awesome trip! You'll discover the history of divided capital of Cyprus. Eleni is very friendly and nice host. She told us a lot of interesting stories and historical facts about Nicosia during the walk through the Buffer Zone. It made this experience unfogettable.

This is a great thing to do when in Nicosia. Eleni is a bubbly personality who is full of interesting facts, historical knowledge and great stories. She will expertly lead you through the buffer zone and the streeds of Nicosia, constantly following the Green Line. You can ask her anything you like to know too - she will try and make the walk as personal as possible. She knows all the local people and will give you great tips on cafés, restaurants and places to go (which we did follow!). This is not your standard walking tour - this is like being the shown the city by a friend! Wholeheartedly recommended.
