What you'll do
Come and explore the World's Borough, Queens New York! Fun Fact: 138 different languages are spoken in the borough of Queens, with a population of around 2.4 million residents. To begin this foodie heaven tour, we will meet in Manhattan and cross over to Queens together on the train. Along the ride, I will explain to you my family's story and history associated with the places we pass over on the train. Then, we will get off at 74th Street/Broadway. Once you get off the train, you will immediately feel the vibes and pulse of this predominantly immigrant community. From there, we will walk down Roosevelt Ave, where we will begin our Latino themed food crawl. Look around you, you never know what street art you will find. We will walk at a leisurely pace and take it all in. Feel free to ask questions while I tell you a little history about the community you are walking through. We will immerse ourselves in cultures from around Latin America through their food, including: -Colombia -Mexico -Ecuador -Argentina These places are not big restaurants or have big flashy lights the way they are in Manhattan. These are local places; owned by members of this community. Find out where NYC locals really eat! From local favorites, food windows, food trucks and more, this experience has it all! I hope you will join me on this taste buds experience!
John and Luchi are both Airbnb employees, friends, and foodies. John is a native New Yorker. He moved back to New York in 2014 after living a few years in Washington DC. He has always been a foodie. His grandma instilled in him a passion for cooking & eating. As a kid, he would go with his family and try new places up and down each neighborhood in Queens. He immediately fell in love with Jackson Heights. Its history intrigued him, it's heartbeat electrified him, and its food impressed him. Luchi moved here when he was 12 and at 18, he decided to go to Culinary School. He worked in restaurants, hotels and for the Coast Guard for a little over a decade. Travel and eating while abroad are his passions and he considers that the best way to learn about a culture, history and people. Thanks for letting us show you our culture through food.
