Hike in the Iconic Mountains of Medellin!

Envigado, Colombia

Experience hosted by Daniel

5.5 hours
Includes food, equipment
Up to 8 people
Hosted in Spanish, English

What you'll do

Our adventure will start in the Parque Envigado (the main square), where you will experience a real Colombian Pueblo (town) right on Medellin's doorstep! There will be a brief explanation of the route and a chance to take some pictures (old local's playing chess or drinking coffee in the square) and buy any last-minute snacks.

We will begin our hike driving through the traditional neighborhood of Trianon in Envigado in a 4x4 vehicle (a world away from the busy streets of el Poblado), at the edge of this neighborhood we will start our climb up into the iconic mountains that surround Medellin. Our adventure will take us through tropical jungles, walk along famous muleteer's roads, across breathtaking fields, hike through ancient pine forest and most of all see the spectacular views of Medellin from the top of her famous mountains. We will find a place to stop for lunch, where we can take in the views, relax in the peacefulness of the countryside and share more stories. Before we begin our descent back down into civilization we will stop at a farm, which is only accessible by foot or horseback. We may even be welcomed by the owner Don Angel, unless he is busy with his animals! Finally, we will slowly make our way down the mountain to our final stop. Here you will get to experience, the beautiful and very traditional town of Sabaneta. We can try some local food and beer if you want to while soaking up the real Colombian atmosphere.
Other things to note
The hike is quite difficult, around 7/10 as there are some hills to climb, although if you have a normal level of fitness you will be fine. The idea of the hike is to disconnect from civilization and travel through jungle and mountains, even though we will be so close to the city. It is important to wear comfortable clothes and shoes with a good grip. Hiking shoes are great but if you have good sports shoes they will be fine. We will find several streams and water sources for our hydration, but please also bring water and snacks!

Amazing hike!! The views, forests, valleys, mountains and the company was fantastic. I definitely got a good workout as well as enjoying nature. Daniel was friendly and explained a lot about the surrounding areas, brought me some fresh orange juice and then ended up having a beer in the end. I wouldn’t have had this amazing opportunity to experience nature in this way, had I not signed up; I’m so glad I did. It’s really worth it!! Oh and I took my 4lb dog who loved Daniels dogs and when the hike got a bit difficult, Daniel carried my dog!!

This is a “must,” for those seeking the great outdoors and seeing the amazing landscapes of Medellin and its surrounding cities. Daniel is an amazing guide that loves his country, loves the outdoors and has an expert level of knowledge of the trail & its diversity of animals , vegetation and farmers that live there. Not only was the tour a wonderful experience , I also now count Daniel as a friend.

Hands down one of the best Airbnb experiences I’ve had. There’s no way I would’ve ever been able to have this experience on my own. I’ve hiked in a lot of places but with Daniel as a guide and Colombia as the place to explore I can say I’ve never done anything like it. Yes the hike can be hard. I would say 7 out of 10 if you’re an active person (keep in mind altitude if you’re from sea level). I wore sneakers and it was fine they just for a bit dirty (to be expected.) The landscape, the trail, the views, I couldn’t have asked for more. Daniel was warm from the very beginning, very easy to chat with, and ensured I had a great time. If you’re up for an adventure and are ready for a truly unique experience then I implore you to go on this hike with Daniel.

This was a really cool experience, and Daniel is not only a good guide, but a good dude as well. We walked from the city of Envigado, up to the top of one the mountains surrounding it, and into the Jungle. One of the most unique hikes I've ever taken. If you want to do something in Medellin that is not a typical tourist experience, do this.

Daniel's experience is not something you would be able to do as someone who is not a local. His hike takes you through a lot of private property and farms. Very beautiful scenery. Great conversation. Daniel is very proud of his community and it shows in his description. On the hike there were amazing views. I tried two fuits I'd never eaten. We also visited with a friend of his who lives on a farm in the mountains, very rural, no electricity, gorgeous farm. Listening to his friend speak spanish really helped my Spanish. Daniel also taught me a lot of spanish on the walk which I greatly appreciated. One word of warning. The hike is 6-7/10 difficulty. I enjoyed it immensely, but you must be ok with long, steep hikes for this experience. Also, gringos, bring sunscreen! I'm a tomato today.

We booked a private hike with Daniel for the 5 of us and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. It was a tough hike based on our fitness levels but Daniel was a fabulous motivator and pushed us to power our way thru the initial climb which is by far the toughest part of the hike. The mountain/jungle he picked and route he designed for the hike was so isolated and untouched that it almost felt like no one had hiked thru there before. A special experience unlike other hikes I have been on where you will usually find litter and other groups on the way. Dan was a polite, chatty and personable host and constantly enriched our experience with his personal stories and experiences. This is truly a memorable experience and I would highly recommend Daniel if you are looking for a special experience in the beautiful mountains of Medellin.
