What you'll do

Our day starts by driving 25 min from Pickering through Oak Ridges Moraine right to Port Perry, Scugog, and making one short stop at Hy-Hope Farm to taste fresh baked pies, tarts and more ( Not included ) (Optional Stop).

We will be ready to start our hike of approximately 1 hour through Glen Major Forest, where we can explore the beautiful views of forestry and water streams.

We will hike Glen Major Forest loop trail 1 miles (1.6 km) located near Uxbridge, Ontario that features a great forest setting. Lots of trails to explore, beautiful lookouts, and a lot of up and downs provide a good workout while enjoying nature.

When we finish our hike, we’ll be ready for a refreshing swim at our Chalk Lake Beachfront. We can kayak, paddle boat, and go fishing (Must bring own rod). Formed by a melting glacier, Chalk Lake, a kettle lake in the southwest corner of Scugog Township, is a microcosm of the moraine's topographical and social evolution. Depending on weather conditions we may swim at Wagner's Lake instead.

After the swim we will drive back to our original location in Pickering.

Due to COVID we ask that you please bring your own vehicle. We will not be allowing guests to drive in the same car as us.

Where you'll be

Guests will begin the experience at our residence in Pickering. Where they can leave their vehicles in a secure lot with ample parking. Hike through Glen Forest Park. However, we could do a slightly different version of this run, depending on the weather and ability of the group. After we descend and clean up, we’ll enjoy dinner at one of my favorite restaurants (Not included) (Optional)

Nadia and Sofia, was great and very engaging. Good experience! Summary: Meet and greet at the start, head to a house to pluck some homegrown veggies, go shopping on a farm produce store, around an hour hike, go to spring water source and an hour and half water activity (canoe, kayak or paddle boards) on smooth lake. ...head home from the lake 😀 PS - This experience is best suited for newbies not been around much in Toronto; people with less experience with hikes or water activities.

This day trip was much better than expected! Learned new things and explored new areas. Nadia is an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable and very accommodating. My fiancee, myself and our little dog had a great time. Nadia goes the extra mile and adds value. We enjoyed the bread and cheese as well ;-)

Great guides on the hike! Very happy there were no other participants, as we were given a lot of attention and it’s good value for the money. Also Nadia recorded videos and took photos for us and sent them the next day! Amazing to not have to worry about documenting our fun adventure.

Nadia and Shah and their extended family made me feel like part of their family. They are incredibly responsive and adaptable to your needs and go out of their way to make your experience special. They also seem to know everyone around town! Such friendly people. I was extremely blessed with excellent summer weather and went kayaking, hiking and swimming in their private lake. On the hike we tasted organic wild apples and saw so many varieties of fresh wild mushrooms. Wear good shoes. We refreshed our feet in an icy cold pure water spring. The lake we swam at was so clear and warm and the sunset over the lake was STUNNING. Highly recommend going in the 4 or 5pm session. I also tried my first Afghan meal and got to meet and mingle with members of their extended family, who also went out of their way to welcome me, even gifting organic vegetables they had in excess in their garden. I was so touched. They very kindly offered to drop off and pick me up from Pickering station (which is only a 37 minute GO train ride from Toronto Union station). This was a FANTASTIC experience for any solo or small group travellers who wish to get out of Toronto and experience nature at a relatively short distance away out of town compared to some of the other destinations like PEC, Algonquin, Tobermory etc. If you are driving yourself its only a 45 min drive out of town. I plan to go a second time and try out the stand-up paddleboarding on the lake. *** One thing I would be careful about (this has NOTHING to do with the experience) is that the GO train did not show anything on their website or station about not picking up passengers at Pickering Station - so I would make sure you have a back up alternate way of going home in case that happens to you! I had to get an Uber back to Roncesvalles and it was $54 which was very frustrating! I am only writing this so any other single females have a way of getting back home safely. ***
