What you'll do
This is a wonderful opportunity to hike in a quieter area with unparalleled views of the central Cape Peninsula from Noordhoek Peak (provided there's no cloud at the summit)! All the while you'll be hiking with a literal Silvermine local - I actually grew up within the National Park in what's known as the Silvermine Valley. This area is my childhood turf where the mountains were an extension of our garden. We'll spend the morning hiking a circular trail through diverse mountain FYNBOS (vegetation type) in the Silvermine section of the Table Mountain National Park. The emphasis is on looking at the details of the unique biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom, and I will be stopping as we walk to chat to you about the different floral species we see. Depending on the time of year you may see anything from beautiful little blue orchids to magnificent giant pink proteas. Wildlife is shy however we may possibly see the majestic Verreaux's Eagles soaring overhead in search of prey. My hike is on standard trails, so it's for all levels, and we'll cover around 7km at an easy pace. In the warmer summer months bring swim gear as you may want to jump into the dam at the end of the trail.
Water & coffee/tea.
Growing up within the boundaries of the incredible Table Mountain National Park I had the mountains of Silvermine as my literal backyard. This is where my love for the Table Mountain range all began. Fast forward 30 years and today I'm a full-time mountain guide in the Western Cape with professional accreditation by the legal bodies in South Africa. Sharing my love for nature by leading interpretive nature trails & adventurous hikes in the Cape Floristic Region allows me to live out my passion daily. Other interests include photography, writing and enjoying Cape wine with family & friends.
