What you'll do
You will come to Quail Creek State Park, pay the day-use parking ($15 for UT residents, $20 for non-residents, up to 8 people per vehicle), check in at our rental office, learn (or review) paddling and safety basics on shore, transition to the water, and continue a bit of technical coaching while cruising across our lake. You will be paddling in the middle of the unique geology of the Virgin Anticline formation. We will take you to see ancient native rock art, limestone shale, and perhaps even experience shallow quicksand before returning to our beach for snacks and hydration.
Other things to note
We have trained over 10,000 beginners on stand up paddleboarding and recreational kayaking. Wear activity-appropriate clothing. Polyester or other synthetics are preferred vs. cotton. Sun protection and a change of clothing would be wise.

My wife and I are cofounders of Dig Paddlesports. We operate inside one of Utah’s gorgeous state parks and conduct tours there and at other locations. We have been paddling and in business for over 10 years. Collectively we have several thousand hours of paddling experience on our local lakes, including lifeguarding over 50 open-water triathlons, 12 of those being IronMan events.
We are WPA-certified and PaddleFit Pro-certified paddle coaches, members of SUPIA (Stand Up Paddle Industry Association), and attend the industry’s top trade events each year to meet with manufacturers, designers, and athletes in order to stay abreast of best practices, which we then distill and share with you, our welcome guests.

Where you'll be
We disembark from our dedicated beach inside Quail Creek State Park, which is easily accessible (just north of State Route 9), but often overlooked by visitors looking for national parks versus a state park experience. We will paddle along limestone cliffs and gypsum shorelines, sandstone cliffs, and beach our equipment to hike across and over a dam to see unique petroglyphs along the Virgin River.

Honestly, it’s hard to put in words, because, it was overwhelming: in beauty, history, science, and emotion. This is an experience that’s so worth everything: time, travel, money, etc.
Bill is 💯 knowledgeable on so many topics. It’s in a breathtaking location.
My sincere thanks.

We had an incredible time with Bill on the tour and hike to see the petroglyphs. Bill was so friendly and was able to show us some great sites. We even saw bald eagles and herons on the shore of the reservoir. I would absolutely recommend this experience!

Bill clearly is meant to do this for a living. He is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and was great with kids! He even helped us customize an entire day of activities. My kids list this as among their favorite days on our entire trip! Ask for the quicksand experience!!
Note this part of Utah is very pro-Trump. If you wouldn’t be comfortable listening to the opinions of a devout supporter or wouldn’t want your kids to hear about conspiracy theories this may not be comfortable for you. We were fine but just worth noting since Bill is very vocal!

We went out with Pat. He shared some excellent facts about the local wild life and terrain. Had tips for some great local hikes. Kept us as a perfect place to finish on time without feeling rushed. Had a great time hunting for petroglyphs together. Would definitely come back and recommend to family and friends.
